Rediscovering the past

Today at Henbrook House, one resident went back in time as she took to playing the local parish church organ decades after she last played.⛪️

Kathleen first found love in all things musical as a young girl listening to her grandfather play the piano.🎹

As a young adult Kathleen found her own talent through watching others and it was not long until she was playing the accordian and piano herself.🎹🪗

Then as a ministers wife it was not long before the church organ came calling and so her passion for music continued through playing for congregations and childrens clubs.

In recent times, Kathleen has always desired to get back to playing once more but through various reasons, she had been unable to get back to playing. That was until now.

The St Neots Parish Church with the support of Rev Paul Hutchinson and Organist Lloyd Barrnett were able to accomodate our request and together revived one ladies passion once more.

Understanding our individual residents hobbies and interests is what we like to support where we can.✨️❤️✨️

We were so overwhelmed by the amount of entries that we have decided to offer TWO dining experiences and a further THREE runner up prizes!!!

Our winners were all entered into a draw and our were picked at random by our amazing residents!

Strictly Youth Dancing
💃🕺💃🕺💃🕺

More Intergenational connection fun today as our residents along with the St Neots Youth Engagement and Lynne from DSM dance took us on a journey of dances through the decades.

Starting with the 1920s and the Charleston through to the 2020s, residents enjoyed taking part and even being taught some of the modern day dances.

At Henbrook House, maintaining Intergenerational connections within our community is at the very heart of what we do.

We are looking forward to even more collaborations in the new year with Hannah Bell and the St Neots Youth Council.

✨️The week that was✨️

As we said goodbye to November and the Autumn months, our residents here at Henbrook House have had another busy week.

As well as those all important pre Christmas retail trips, our residents got the opportunity to visit the splendor of Ely Cathedral for their annual Christmas Fayre.

Performances this week were from the ever engaging James Reynolds Vocalist and Fiona Harrison who brought us a variety of songs from the musicals.🎶

It wasn't just the performers who were entertaining this week as residents took to the microphone for an afternoon of Karaoke.🎤

This weekend we were busy learning what goes into the making of our renowned house sausage rolls and trying our hand at creating our own version.

Our ever popular behind the scenes tours saw residents have a go at sheet pressing in our Laundry department.

Staff member Joy gave our knit and natter group a fascinating demonstration on her spinning wheel.

With our weekly visits from the childminder children, Peggy the pup, games a plenty and special birthdays, it made for another amazing week here in our wonderful home. 🏡

✨️Connaught Care Connections✨️

This week we saw a start of a new collaboration between both Henbrook House and The Chase Care Home in the form of a Gentleman's Club.

Events Manager Karolina welcomed Henbrook resident Ron to join Chase residents Arthur, Doug and John for an afternoon of friendship and togetherness.

As well as enjoying the amazing pistachio cake offering, we also discovered the various ways in which to play a traditional game of dominos.

Over the next few weeks and into the new year, we plan to bring even more residents together who may just be seeking the companionship of their fellow man!

Career development📝

Henbrook House Care Home are absolutely thrilled to congratulate our very own Jade, a dedicated member of the housekeeping team on her recent achievement!

Jade has been working hard on her level 3 apprenticeship - Hospitality Supervisor and has passed this with flying colours! A testiment of dedication to her career development and we couldn’t be prouder.

Growth, learning and development strengthen our team to deliver the highest quality care and support to our residents.

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

With it being one month today until the big day, things are starting to look a little bit Christmassy here at Henbrook House.

With a full calendar of Activities and events, we are looking forward to sharing and making memories with all our residents at this festive time of year.🎄❤️🎄

A Spectacular day out for Henbrook House

Some of our residents experienced the magic of the Thursford Christmas Spectacular. An extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, music, humour and variety. With a cast of 130 it is the biggest Christmas show of its kind in Europe! 🎄🩰💃🎤🎶❄️🕺🎄

One of our residents Joyce had this to say.
"The 2hr journey was well worth while. The show was utterly brilliant. You can not put into words how good it was. One that i will remember for a long long time"

Creating memories and special days like this is what we at Henbrook House part of the Connaught Care Group aim to achieve.🌲

The signs are good!

Henbrook House recently started up a sign language course for our residents led by our Activities Coordiantor Pauline.

Showing a BSL course video in the comfort of our amazing cinema, residents over the last few weeks have learnt level 1 communication along with the song "what a wonderful world"🌎👌

We are now looking forward to a joint venture at Christmas, when the residents and pupils of Little Paxton School come together to sign and sing a selection of Christmas Carols. 🎶🌲

At Henbrook House we are always looking at ways to offer inclusive connection skills with our residents and their families.
