Inclusion

Inclusion Inclusion exists to enable and empower individuals to make positive changes. We are one of the HSJ Best Places to Work in 2015.

We provide high-quality, evidence-based, innovative substance misuse and mental health services across England in prison and community settings. In 2002 Inclusion was created as part of the award winning South Staffordshire and Shropshire NHS Foundation Trust (SSSFT). It was created to develop and provide evidence based innovative services to beneficiaries across England. At its inception, Inclusion was created to have the flexibility to provide local solutions to local communities but with the governance and commitment to quality of the NHS. Inclusion has been successful in its endeavours, since 2002 Inclusion has grown to both substance misuse and mental health services in the community, residential and prisons. Inclusion employ over 500 staff, this includes Psychiatrists, counsellors, Doctors, Nurses, Therapists, Drug and Alcohol Recovery Workers, Peer Mentors and Volunteers. We provide mental health and drug and alcohol services to in excess of 19,000 service users per annum across the Home Counties, the Midlands, East of England up to the North of England. The range of services we provide allows us to work with our service users in prisons, extending this into community settings, tackling both their substance misuse and mental health concerns. We believe that people can change, a resounding theme of our services that underpins our success is that of being flexible to changing need, not compromising on quality and understanding our responsibility in achieving the best possible outcomes for service users, families and communities. Inclusion has extensive experience of working alongside and providing services to Clinical Commissioning Groups, Local Authority Public Health Teams, Police and Crime Commissioners, NOMS, NHS England and a broad range of public and voluntary sector institutions. Partnerships are important to us and we work with a range of providers to ensure there is comprehensive packages of care in place for our service users. We are part of an innovative and forward thinking organisation with an expanding portfolio of services. This means we can offer our staff genuine opportunities to develop their careers, gaining experience working across a number of specialisms. We are renowned for investing in and supporting our employees and have a strong ethos of continuous professional development. We are Health Service Journal 2016 award winners for our naloxone project. To find out more please visit www.inclusion.org/naloxone

We’re proud to see Staffordshire Police highlighting the impact of our partnership work in their latest article.

Their Drug Test on Arrest programme is helping people access the right support at the right time, linking in with our Staffordshire-based service STaRS - Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery System, and our friends in Stoke at Stoke CDAS.

Our Criminal Justice Specialist at STaRS said:
💬 “We know of many examples where timely, targeted custody engagement can lead to meaningful behaviour change and improved treatment outcomes.”

Since June last year, officers have been equipped with naloxone, a medication that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. So far, 472 people working within Staffordshire Police have been trained by STaRS and CDAS to administer it.

A big thank you to Staffordshire Police for sharing this important work and the positive outcomes being achieved together.

For a long time, Emma kept her gambling a secret - even from the people closest to her.

Her story is a powerful reminder that gambling harm isn't always visible, and silence can make it harder to seek help.

On International Gambling Harms Awareness Day, we're here to remind you that...

💬 You’re not alone
💬 It’s okay to ask for help
💬 Support is here when you’re ready

A huge thank you to Emma for writing this powerful piece for us. Read her story here ➡️ https://orlo.uk/Lzo9L

Today is International Gambling Harms Awareness Day, a time to break stigma, raise awareness, and highlight that support is available.

At our West Midlands Gambling Harms Clinic, we see every day how gambling harm can impact lives, but also how recovery is possible. With more than 700 referrals in 2025, our specialist service has supported people with free, evidence-based care, tailored to suit the needs of each individual.

Stories like Sharon and Patrick’s remind us why this work is so important. Both experienced the harms of gambling, but through non-judgmental support, courage and determination, they are now rebuilding their lives.

💬 “I can’t emphasise enough the difference the service has made to my life.”

If you or someone you know is struggling, today is the day to reach out. Whether it’s your first step or you’re returning for support, the answer is always yes, we’ll work with you.

Recovery isn't linear. It's not always going to be a perfect journey. Finding what works for you might not happen immediately. But through that journey, we never judge - not once. We understand the complexities of recovery, and we know it's not easy. What we do know is that even being on the path to recovery, even if it's the first step, takes an incredible amount of bravery and strength - and we're here for you every step of the way.

The incredible feedback we had from someone who accessed our gambling harms service is a perfect example of that. We couldn't be more proud of our team for making a real difference every day.

Did you know that more and more women are experiencing serious harm from gambling, but many don’t realise there are services designed to support them?

In our West Midlands Gambling Harms Clinic, we’ve been working to better understand the specific experiences and needs of women affected by gambling.

This means…
✅ Listening to women’s experiences
✅ Trauma-informed approaches to treatment
✅ Women’s peer support through a new group called 'EmPowerHER Together'
✅ Continually improving how our service responds

We know gambling harm can often sit alongside other experiences, but by asking “what happened to you?” rather than “what’s wrong with you?”, we’re creating safer spaces for honest conversations and recovery.

It's and we're back like we never left!

This week, we’re sharing an article from Martin, who reflects on how a simple idea to support staff wellbeing grew into a regular series of sessions focused on stress, connection, and self-awareness within the workplace.

Drawing on experiences from the past few years, Martin explores how creating space for reflection, shared purpose, and mutual support can help teams better navigate the emotional demands of frontline work. The sessions have since become a valued part of the service, helping staff reconnect with their values, manage stress, and support one another.

His article also shares feedback from staff who have taken part, highlighting the impact these conversations can have on both professional and personal wellbeing.

Today, we're celebrating the relaunch of the Incentivised Substance Free Living (ISFL) wing at HMP Leeds 🎉

The ISFL wing is a specialised, dedicated area within prisons for people wanting to reside in a drug-free environment. These wings promote rehabilitation in a calmer, cleaner, and more stable living environment, allowing residents to focus on personal growth and recovery from addiction.

The team at HMP Leeds recently hosted a relaunch event for residents... take a look at some of the feedback below 👇

💬 "I loved every minute of it and the three people that spoke were very motivating, it makes me want to keep up the good work that I am doing.”

💬 “Amazing! Today I feel like I have been a part of something, not judged, thank you for the invite.”

💬 “I found the session very interesting and very educating and helped me to see what I need to do to move forward with my life.”

In 2024, Inclusion became the largest NHS provider to have Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (MHWP) in all of our community drug and alcohol services. Since then, we even expanded the role into prisons through our health in justice services, as well as our gambling harms service too!

For today's , we're pleased to share some of the wonderful comments from our 'Managing Emotions' group, that was delivered by one of our MHWPs 💬💙
