"🔎Relatively recent research demonstrating a mechanism through which exercise may work to reduce the risk of osteoarthritis. This study fits nicely with others showing that moderate exercise appears to have a protective effect on joint cartilage.

🧠In this study (cited below), researchers subjected chondrocytes (cartilage cells) to mechanical loading, which activated the HDAC6 protein and lead to a suppression of inflammatory signaling.

🏋🏼‍♂️Often times, I run into people who worry that exercise will damage their joints. Hopefully, this research will change this belief and help others understand that loading their joints through moderate doses of exercise can positively influence cartilage health and reduce the risk of developing arthritis.

The British Journal of Sports Medicine have put an info graphic together to encourage vulnerable and at risk groups of people to stay active. This could be spending time in the garden/yard/outdoor space doing some gardening or light exercise once a day.
Maybe look at downloading the DownDog app (it's free currently until June) for simple chair Yoga exercises.

Any exercise is better than none.

I’ve been a bit quiet on here since September of last year, as I started working in a private sports injury clinic in Manchester.
Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to be uploading different activities you can do at home in the living room, garden, back yard or in the local park to keep you physically fit and well in these uncertain times due to Covid-19.

Mother Hen has neck and back pain so a bit of deep tissue massage was needed this evening to iron out the muscles around the mid back and neck.
In order to aid the massage, some home exercises have been prescribed to relieve the pain she’s been experiencing.
