Imagine putting this much effort into everything you do? Going above and beyond at every fence you jump?
The physical concussion, the joint flexion and extension, the musculature used to cover the ground and punch off the floor- these horses are elite athletes and deserve the care and attention attributed to keeping them at their optimum physically.

Soft tissue therapy and stretching routines not only keep the circulation and lymphatic drainage flowing but also encourage the muscles to stay pliable. As a result they are prepped for the over exertions they endure when the horses are performing.

I prepped this mare with long, low and slow flatwork prior to her trip to the World Breeding Championships, she had a tailored routine of massage, myofascial release and stretching to follow her daily exercise which prepared her for competition and travel.

On arrival to the show and throughout the week the soft tissue focus was pre and post competition, warming the muscles pre jumping, relaxing the body post jumping.

They are not machines, they feel muscle soreness and sensitivity as we do.
Adrenaline in the ring is not enough for them to be able to ignore discomforts.

Run your hands over your horses, get to know their bodies. Are the muscles pliable? Do the horses react negatively to your touch? How is their range of movement with the stretches? Are they symmetrical in the musculature and stretching ability?

Go above and beyond for them as they do us.

It really is about knowing the basics. .

Understanding equine anatomy is a very complex education, however it is possible that a little knowledge goes a long way. I aim to help my clients have a better understanding of the mechanics of their horses, and assist in improving performances and all round well-being.

We have all woken up one morning feeling stiff, over exerted ourselves after a run or a gym session, even just slept awkwardly! Our horses are no different, they too can experience stiffness and range of motion limitations from everyday life, thats without considering new training programmes, a long hack or a day of competition and travelling.

Our horses try very hard not to complain, therefore it is our responsibility to ensure our horses are kept feeling supple and in peak condition.

Back to Basics Equine Bodywork sessions will contribute to your equines well-being programme and at the same time help to prevent muscular tightness, flexibility limitations or injuries developing. .
