Monread Lodge Care Home Monread Lodge provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly.

Monread Lodge is a sixty-two room care home, which provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly. All accommodation is en-suite and located on the ground-floor for ease of access for those with limited mobility. The comfort and safety of those who live in our homes is our top priority. We're proud to have built a community where you or your loved ones feel welcome and at home. That's why our team are dedicated to ensuring that the experience for every person who joins us is as stress-free as possible. Those living with us at Monread Lodge can enjoy the spacious conservatory, dining room and a choice of comfortable lounges. There is also a central courtyard with an ornamental fishpond and even our very own chickens. The site also houses a 16-unit dedicated dementia unit, Knebworth Court, which was refurbished in November 2020 along with many other areas of the home. Monread Lodge also features plenty of private parking, extensive grounds and secure gardens and is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town of Knebworth and Woolmer Green, close to the mainline railway station and on a direct bus route.

Tuesday morning madness.

This morning using the new More Portal, we tried a dance exercise session for More...Movement. Because the activities staff could not see the screen, one of our lovely residents led the class for us and did a fantastic job.

We finished the session off with a rowdy rendition of The Hokey Cokey. Now everyone is bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for the days activities. The characters went around the home saying good morning and doing 1:1 hokey cokey in the rooms, which made everyone laugh. We even got called absolute nutters, which we will take as a compliment!

Sometimes it's just nice to be able to do something that is quiet and relaxing. Sometimes the Hussle and Bussel around the home can be sensory overload. So, to be given the opportunity just to sit and read, colour, do puzzles or just chat proves much more beneficial.

Halloween was celebrated in style here at Monread. From pumpkin carving and colouring sheets, to make 3D haunted houses and even the mandatory dressing up.

By the end of the week we were Halloweened out. We took part in quizzes, film afternoons, learned about Dracula and even participated in a virtual tour of his castle in Transylvania. Now Halloween is over its time to start gearing up for Christmas!

Here at Monread, we have discovered you can have lots of fun using a hairdryer, ping pong balls and some bats. The concentration needed to hit the balls was immense and you definitely needed good hand eye coordination.

We had the pleasure of welcoming the amazing Saad and his piano to our home! His ability to get the people living with us singing was brilliant.

The conservatory was packed, and we are very grateful to Saad for his visits as he gives his time for free and brings so much joy and enthusiasm to the home. You can regularly hear people singing down the corridors as they go past.

We have focused a lot on 1:1's within Knebworth Court.

This is on top of our usual activities that are held there. The benefits to those living with us have been so apparent. Everyone from Knebworth Court have also been coming up to the main conservatory to enjoy activities and our visiting musical entertainers. We have been learning about the Home Guard and Sharks.
The Home Guard session was really interactive as those living with us told each other their memories from during the war. This activity took up most of the morning due to the conversations that were being had.

We also learned about Sharks and their habitats, whether they lay eggs or give birth to live young etc. We also watched a nature programme on Sharks found around the world. Everyone had a great time!

We had a lovely visit from Mya at Gfitness!

She really put us through our paces with her gentle armchair exercise routine, perfect for More...Movement. Before the session started, she spent time going round introducing herself to everyone. Mya managed to get people to take part in the session who don't usually want to, which was great to see.

On Saturday Morning we had a reminiscence activity that was based on our wedding days. We talked about dresses, the planning etc. We even read the difference in the vows from the 1950's and today. It was surprising that some agreed to say "obey" and some didn't. We had a quiz and a trivia session that enabled us to discover more about traditions, which created lots of talking points. Surprisingly even the gents got involved and even more surprisingly one gentleman could even remember his wedding anniversary !

Here at Monread we love our games. Here at Monread Friday in Knebworth Court is Animal Kingdom Day. Each week we pick an animal and learn fun facts about them. We use both Oomph and Golden Carers to get fun stuff printed so that there is lots to sit and talk about. We always try to find out funny and random facts... you never know when they may come in handy .
