Discreet Hearing

Discreet Hearing Independent hearing aid audiologists offering hearing tests, hearing aid demonstrations, and ear wax Peter's parents were both born deaf.

Discreet Hearing is operated by Peter & Joma Ormrod, a father and daughter team, with over 15 years experience in the hearing aid industry and a lifetime experience of dealing with hearing loss. Peter and his siblings have all had a hearing loss since their teens and twenties and all wear hearing aid systems. Having grown up in a hard of hearing family, Peter and Joma understand the frustrations of living with hearing loss both for the individual and for their families. They also know the dramatic effect that restoring hearing has on a person's quality of life: Being able to join in the conversation at a family dinner; listen to the television at the same volume as their spouse; socialise again with ease in restaurants and other environments where background noise poses a problem....simple things we take for granted. We offer the latest in hearing aid technology at prices to suit your individual budget. Included in the price is our after-care service and we extend the manufacturers 60 day money back guarantee so there is no risk involved. If you decide to give the hearing system back within 60 days you will be refunded the full amount. We offer a free* consultation, hearing test and demonstration in the comfort of your own home and we will not pressure you to purchase a system. We encourage you to take all the time you need to decide what is right for you. Please feel free to contact us if you would like any further information.

*We offer hearing tests free of charge for patients over the age of 60. For those under 60, we charge ยฃ90, which is deducted from the cost of any hearing aids purchased.

Feeling quite emotional watching this ๐Ÿฅน. My grandparents, Peter's parents, were born deaf in the very early 1900's when they were considered 'deaf & dumb'. Sign language back then wasn't anything like what it is today. I'm very proud of what they achieved, without a lot of opportunity, and the family they raised.

I'm sad that my grandparents weren't afforded the same opportunities that exist today, but I'm also really proud of how much more awareness there is of disability, and of those out there who are improving inclusivity โ™ฅ๏ธ.

John Bishop and his son Joe hope to learn more about the deaf community as his son has an autoimmune condition causing progressive deafness. | ITV News Granada

Here are some great tips for communicating with people who have hearing loss. Hearing aids do not restore hearing back to 'normal' so try to be mindful of this, particularly with those who are older (80s & 90s) as it can also take the brain a bit longer to process sound information ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's the end of Disability Pride Month, though, we're always celebrating Disability Pride! We love this share from !

"โ€‹DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

July is Disability Pride Month and for me itโ€™s about celebration of life & diversity, self love, advocacy and accessibility awareness๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›

Hearing loss is an invisible disability and it affects our life on a day to day basis.

It is important to remember that the Deaf community is diverse and each individual has different needs and requirements; level of deafness, some may need sign language interpreter or notetaker and some people wear hearing aids/Cochlear Implants. They also have preferences for communication such as some people use spoken language, lip reading or sign language or others may use a combination of spoken and sign language.

Tips on how you can be more Deaf friendly and create an inclusive space๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ
๐Ÿ’›Face the person directly and make eye contact; donโ€™t move much as it will be impossible for them to lip read or understand what youโ€™re saying.
๐Ÿ’œTap on their shoulder lightly or wave to get their attention.
๐Ÿ’›Use paper and pen wherever possible.
๐Ÿ’œMake sure the lights are on and directly on your face so that they can lipread.
๐Ÿ’›When in a large group, always make sure that one person is speaking at a time.
๐Ÿ’œAlways ask what type of communication method they prefer.
๐Ÿ’›Speak clearly, slowly, and naturally, without shouting or exaggerating mouth movements.
๐Ÿ’œRepeat/ Rephrase whenever possible.
๐Ÿ’›Use gestures and body language.
๐Ÿ’œCaption your social media content.
๐Ÿ’›Avoid sending audio messages or normal call.
๐Ÿ’œConsider alternatives such as Email or text messaging to communicate.
๐Ÿ’›Support deaf people and their business.
๐Ÿ’œWear Transparent mask.

Lastly, remember that not all disabilities are visible. Please be patient and Be kind to everyone๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›"

๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿ“ฃNEW HEARING AID ALERT!..... Introducing the world's first WATERPROOF hearing aid! ๐Ÿ˜…
This is welcome solution for many people, particularly those who are very active, play sport, do a lot of exercise, as these will withstand sweat and the elements.

While they may not be practical for swimming lengths, this new solution does mean that you can keep your hearing aids in while taking a dip in the pool or in the ocean ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿคฝ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ๏ธ

Being avid skiers and mountain lovers, Robin Gillon - professional freestyle skier, is a man after our own hearts! Being a young guy with only 20% natural hearing, the cool and sleek Virto P Black hearing aid not only helps him to hear better but he can also stream music and phone calls. All of this without the traditional hearing aid 'look'.

We've had some great results with our younger patients who have opted for this Bluetooth, earbud-style hearing aid. We're happy to answer any questions if you'd like to know more ๐Ÿ˜Žโ›ท๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‚(about skiing or hearing aids ๐Ÿ˜†).

We are back! We are now out of quarantine and able to see patients again. We have a bit of a backlog to get through, but we will do our best to accommodate any new enquiries we receive from Monday 21st February as quickly as possible.

Due to a very high demand for appointments, we have had to review our coverage area in order to maintain a high level of service to all of our patients. Please see the postcode map below for our updated service area.

We haven't posted for a while, and we've been very busy seeing patients for hearing aids and cleaning waxy ears but the dreaded virus has finally got us! ๐Ÿค’๐Ÿคง
Unfortunately, Peter and I have both tested positive within days of each other and currently isolating.
Until we test negative we are not able to book in any new appointments ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Thank you to our very understanding patients and hopefully we'll be out and about again next week ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž.
Best wishes,
Joma & Peter
