Super happy for our client to run his first 10km without pain

Before he came to us he would be able to run 5km but training for 10km he’d always injured his calf muscle

On assessment he had reduced range of movement of both ankles and pronation. This meant his calf muscles were always tight

We increased the range of the movement in the ankles. Strengthen them in all ranges, increase big toe strength to help his running, worked on his balance and then strengthen his calves

Now his run 10km and we now are working with him to run 1/2 marathon

Muscle imbalance

The body should always be symmetrical when discussing muscle size . There can be reasons why it could be slightly different for example a broken bone.

For this imbalance, the client has no broken bones or history of illness. The client doesn’t do any exercise other than walking but has developed one calf muscle bigger than the other

This has lead to pain in the knee and hip.

We need to quickly build strength in all muscles below the knee and balance. Once this has been done then we can work on the gait to correct all the bad habits to stand and work correctly

Calf Raises

Here is a client who can push 200kg + on a leg press machine performing calf raises. His legs are straight and his wearing shoes. Sounds impressive but his calves are tight

When we had to test the individual muscle on a simple calf raise you can see he is using a lot more muscles than his actual calves. The calves are not as strong as he thought

Look at the hips

Look at the way the ankle falls out

What we are going to need to do is go back to basics. Increase his ankle mobility, balance, big toe strength and then go back to the calf raise

Good Posture is for LIFE

Posture is key for body health and it relies on good FOUNDATION, MOBILITY and STRENGTH of muscles and joints throughout the body

With this body you can see the feet are sticking outwards. This will cause the knees to turn and apply pressure to the lower back. This in turn will cause the belly to stick outwards which isn’t helped by a weak core.

Due to being out of alignment because of the foundation from the ankles upwards we reach the shoulders which are rounded. Lots of stress to the upper back and neck

Simple 5 minutes of stretching a day and Pilates would solve most of these issues

This is Olecranon Bursitis or Elbow Bursitis is the inflammation of bursa at top of the elbow. There are many ways this can happen from overuse to repetitive actions.

This bursitis was caused by direct blow from Muay Thai. Arm was brought up to guard a kick and the shin struck the elbow. Client carried on fighting for many weeks and resting it but the swelling got worse and worse

We will now begin a rehabilitation program to reduce swelling and repair the soft tissue injuries which also came from the kick
