I just found this photo at home of me in probably about 1996/7 (six seven! 😜) at Lister Hospital.

I reckon this is the stairs between level 5 (orthopaedic wards) and 6, where we used to take patients who’d had hip or knee surgery to check they were safe on the stairs before sending them home.

Nicki was probably elsewhere on the wards at the time.

Many happy memories of my time at the Lister Hospital in the late 90s 💙

Last night we had our Christmas meal out with the team (Sharon is still down under 🦘).

We decided to go somewhere different this year and after reading lots of good reviews we settled on The Waggon and Horses in Graveley. If you haven’t been it’s a very traditional cosy pub.

We all had a delicious meal with good portions and served hot. The waiting staff were all lovely and very attentive. It was a really lovely evening! We will definitely be returning next year.

Thanks for looking after us so well!

So for those who saw the video of Tony on the aqua park yesterday- after a fairly innocuous tumble on one of the inflatables he sustained a fractured humerus (broken arm 🦴)…..😮😮😮

He’s been having NHS Physio and has decided to supplement that with some hydrotherapy after he saw his Daughter benefit from it a few years ago.

Hydro might ‘look easy’ but it’s critical that we get things like body position right and that the patient works the right area without compensating with other less stiff areas (this is common in stiff post fracture shoulders).

If you or someone you know is dealing with a stiff or weak and painful shoulder - get in touch as hydrotherapy could be good for you too!

Wishing our Home Visit Hero Sharon and very happy birthday today 🥳

I love this photo of Sharon with one of her home visit patients from last year, Ruth. For me it really shows how personable Sharon is and how relaxed she makes her patients feel.

She’s currently on the other side of the world visiting family 🇦🇺🌏🦘.

Hopefully she’s enjoying a cup of tea and some cake in the land down under.

Just wanted to share something that happened to me last night that really made my day.

I went to my usual swim coaching with the triathlon club last night and at the end of the session, one of the guys who’d been swimming in the same lane as me waited to speak to me at the end of the session.

He said he wanted to thank me as he had remembered me from about 20 years ago when I was an NHS Physio. He’d had a serious motorcycle accident and broken his leg badly. He said he remembered me teaching him to walk again 🥹. When he told me his name I did remember him.

Our conversation really made me day. It never fails to amaze me how people remember what we do and are forever grateful. This is why I love my job so much. Making a difference.

Job satisfaction at its best!

This morning I popped into to see Maria Costello from Stevenage Osteopath Clinic for a cuppa and a catch up.

It’s great having Maria in the Old Town too and we sometimes refer patients to each other. It’s nice to have mutual respect for a fellow healthcare provider rather than seeing each other as competition.

We have a great community of businesses in the Old Town 🩶
