We don’t know who it was that led you to believe you’re unworthy of happiness…

We don’t know when it was, that your confidence became crushed, and you started to base your self-worth on the way your body looks (and doesn’t look) in the mirror.

2025 Was the year that Laura had enough...

But it was also the year she decided to make a change, put her mind and body first, and never give up...

This is what she said about her incredible journey to ultimate health and happiness that she had been craving for so long:

“2025 was the first year I worked out consistently — an entire year without giving up. And honestly, I’m really proud of that because normally I have an excuse, and I have had valid reasons to give up but I adjusted (PIVOT) and came back more determined!

It didn’t happen because I suddenly became more motivated or found the “perfect” routine. It happened because I changed my mindset.

I worked on myself mentally just as much as I did physically. I prioritised rest instead of feeling guilty for it. I set boundaries to protect my energy. I kept reminding myself why I was doing this — not for aesthetics or pressure, but because moving my body genuinely makes me feel calmer and more grounded.

I did what I could, when I could. I let go of the all-or-nothing mindset that used to trip me up. I stopped talking to myself like s**t 💩 and learned to be kinder, even on the days when the lows hit harder. I rolled with those lows and climbed with the highs, instead of letting either one define me.

And the biggest truth?

I did all of this because when I don’t work out, I feel terrible. My mood dips. I get irritable or angry. I don’t feel like myself. Movement is my reset button, my anchor, my way back to balance.

So here’s to a year of consistency, growth, and finally showing up for myself — not perfectly, but honestly. And here’s to keeping that energy going. 💪✨

I also need to thank MHEC and Fiona Oxley for helping me to reach this stage, if you asked me last summer I wouldn’t have thought I would still be pushing through and actually enjoying it 😂”

We’re lucky enough to have been around the block a few times…

And we’ve seen those who are brave enough to regularly make it through the gym doors.

But, who get a bit lost once they’re inside.

The cross trainer, followed by the rowing machine, followed by the exercise bike…

An hour-long circuit repeated with each visit.

A small boost in mood.

But months go by without any real progress.

And after a while the sessions get boring, and your motivation wavers.

You begin to compare yourself to those who come out beaming from ear to ear, muscles glistening in sweat, who you know for a fact have truly grown both physically and mentally that day.

The answer to this fitness and motivation conundrum can be solved with the following advice:

If you are lacking in motivation, repeat the same exercises every week, and typically stick to the cardio machines, and let’s be honest, don’t really know what you’re doing…

You have either set the wrong type of goal (ie fat loss over general fitness), you are being motivated by the wrong thing (ie looking good over feeling good), you are doing it for the wrong reasons (ie to impress others rather than to improve yourself), and, your fear of looking foolish, looking silly or feeling unfit is holding you back from doing a workout that will be better for your body and mind.

Scary, even!

That’s why the MHEC Gym has made a promise to the people of Stirling, Alloa and Falkirk to be the go-to gym for people who don’t like busy gyms.

We are a gym that focuses on both mind and body - and everyone is welcome.

Make no mistake about it, feeling anxious and unsupported is a horrible feeling…

The MHEC Gym (formerly DH Fitness Studio) opened its doors in January 2020.

When it was forced to close its doors due to lockdown restrictions, a mood-boosting fitness programme was born to support its members from home 🧠🔋

When lockdown restrictions were lifted and the gym reopened, the combination of the feel-good workouts, the supportive gym atmosphere, and expert staff allowed the gym to create a world class service for the residents of Stirling, Falkirk and Alloa.

5 years on, the MHEC Gym is a safe space for those who want to feel safe to be themselves, judgement free, whilst using the stress-busting and energy-boosting workouts to become the best version of themselves.
