🐈🙌 Feline Physio 🙌🐈
Did you know we do physiotherapy for cats too?!
Physiotherapy for cats is not as widely known about as physiotherapy for dogs & horses, but it can be done and when it is, it makes a positive impact on our furry feline’s lives.
Pain recognition is cats is often missed but physiotherapy can help:
Many tolerate it well as we continue to follow our ethos of always treating your pet how we would treat our own and working within their acceptance levels.
We've seen a rise in cases of acorn poisoning so far this week. This is a bumper year for acorns and stormy weather has caused them to fall earlier and in bulk.
Signs to look out for:
• Dullness and lethargy
• Off feed
• Constipation followed by diarrhoea
• Dark tarry faeces
• Reduced urination
Clinical signs often occur 2-5 days post-ingestion of acorns. Unfortunately there is no specific treatment or cure - with significant kidney damage progressing to death.
Minimising risk is key!
• Move stock out of high risk pasture
• Ensure enough grass coverage or provide additional forage
If you have any concerns please phone the practice on 01555 660000 or 01786 231199.

Some lovely feedback from one of our wonderful sporting dogs and owners from a recent competition…
“I just wanted to message and say Jess got 2nd in her division at the UK flyball Championships at the weekend!
We were seedest the slowest in the division but managed to tie with winning heats/legs with 1st place but we were just not as quick as them so a very well earned 2nd place!
Thank you guys for keeping Jess sound and fit (and Alfie too of course!) She ran the most consistent she's ever ran 💪”

Jayne graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Zoology from the University of Glasgow in 2009. She then continued into postgraduate studies to obtain her professional qualification, an Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Physiotherapy, through the Canine and Equine Physiotherapy Training Group (CEPT) based at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science.
After graduating this 2 year postgraduate course with merit, Jayne launched her own freelance veterinary physiotherapist business - JF: Vet Physio - in July 2011. During this time Jayne has successfully treated a wide variety of canine and equine cases.
All veterinary physiotherapy undertaken complies with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 where veterinary agreement is obtained prior to treatment. Jayne is a firm believer that communication is the key to working well as a team and encourages vets, owners and other professionals to work closely with her to achieve the best results for their clients.
Jayne is a member of the governing body: the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapists (IRVAP). IRVAP supports Jayne as a professional in the animal health industry in her provision of best practice care towards her clients.
Jayne is also a registered practitioner on the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) for her physiotherapy skill set. This register acts as a 'go-to' list, for both vets and owners to consult, to obtain information on approved practitioners in their area. RAMP's aim is to provide a list of practitioners you can confidently work with to ensure your animal receives the 'Gold Standard' care it deserves.
On a personal level, Jayne is originally from the Isle of Arran and has grown up surrounded by animals and the country side. Horses have been a strong influence throughout her life, shaping her into the person she is today.
From owning Shetland ponies to Thoroughbreds, Jayne has become a proficient rider and has become well known for taking on a challenge. Although mainly competing at riding club level, Jayne has dipped into the world of Eventing and hopes her youngster 'Belle' will step up to the challenge in due course.
Dogs have always been part of the family growing up where they have all loved having the freedom of the Arran countryside - especially Blackwaterfoot Beach! However, it wasn't until studying veterinary physiotherapy that Jayne became interested in the competitive canine world whilst retaining a strong interest towards orthopaedic recovery.
At Broadleys Veterinary Hospital, orthopaedic cases occupy the majoirty of Jayne's time and the sense of achievement watching them progress is what makes the job so worthwhile.
