🩸Today is World Diabetes Day🩸

It’s a great time to remind ourselves about the importance of understanding, managing, and preventing diabetes. Did you know that 1 in 10 people in the UK live with diabetes, and 1 in 5 don’t even know they have it?

At Heaton Moor Medical Group, we have a dedicated team of clinicians with a special interest in diabetes, including Sr Helen Bowker, our Diabetes Nurse Specialist. Our goal is to help patients manage their diabetes effectively, improving quality of life and reducing the risk of long-term complications.

If you’re worried about diabetes and would like to get checked, or if you’ve already been diagnosed and are overdue any of your routine checks, please contact the surgery. Our team will be happy to help you book the right appointment and support you with your care. 🧡

Each year, many of our staff take part in the Great Manchester 10k to support causes close to our hearts. This picture shows four of our GPs taking part in the 2023 event, when we ran to raise money for Diabetes UK. 🧡🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

🌎🧡World Kindness Day 🧡🌎

As the day winds down, we didn’t want to miss the chance to recognize World Kindness Day - a wonderful reminder of how much a simple smile, a kind word, or a moment of understanding can mean.

We also want to take a moment to thank all of our patients for showing us kindness this week. We experienced some unexpected phone issues yesterday, and your patience and understanding truly meant a lot to our team.

Kindness really does make the world go round - and we’re so grateful to have such kind and caring patients in our HMMG family. 🧡

12/11/2025

Our phone lines have now been restored. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

12/11/2025

We are currently having technical difficulties with our phone system. We are trying to resolve the issue but please bare with us until the issue is fixed. You can still submit your query via https://accurx.nhs.uk/patient-initiated/p88026

🌹 Remembrance Day: 11th November 🌹
On this solemn day, the team at Heaton Moor Medical Group stands with our community to remember and honour the incredible sacrifice of all those who have served.
Their selflessness allowed us the peace and freedom to build the safe community we serve today. We are forever grateful.

As Remembrance Sunday draws to a close, we pause to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who gave so much.

This evening, we hold in our thoughts all who lost their lives in conflict, those who returned carrying its weight, and the families and communities forever changed. Their legacy lives on in the peace and freedoms we share today.

At Heaton Moor Medical Group, we offer our heartfelt gratitude and remembrance.

Lest we forget. 💙

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. 1 in 8 men will have it in their lifetime.

If you’re black this risk is double.

Prostate cancer uk can help you work out your personal risk.
If a family member has had prostate or even breast cancer your individual risk could be higher, so it is important to know your family’s history.

There are very few signs of early prostate cancer.

If you do notice changes in the way you pass urine, this is more likely to be a very common condition called ‘benign prostatic hypertrophy’ which just means enlarged prostate and is non-cancerous
It could also be a sign of diabetes or lots of other conditions

It’s a good idea to get it checked out. Possible symptoms include:
* difficulty starting to urinate or emptying your bladder
* a weak flow when you urinate
* a feeling that your bladder hasn’t emptied properly
* dribbling urine after you finish urinating
* needing to urinate more often than usual, especially at night
* a sudden need to urinate – you may sometimes leak urine before you get to the toilet.

The charity Prostate Cancer Uk have some amazing resources and info on all things prostate, as well as support if you or a loved one has a prostate cancer diagnosis.

If you’re worried please get in touch with the practice through the online triage system and a GP will look into your concerns usually the same day, and be able to offer advice.

🎗️Today marks the end of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) Awareness Month.🎗️

As the month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the importance of raising awareness of CML — a rare type of blood cancer — and to show our support for everyone affected by it.

Early diagnosis can make a big difference, so it’s important to know the signs and symptoms to look out for. 👇
