A poem was read by Dana Faulds titled “Walk slowly”.
It was the perfect reflection of my MAES Advanced Course and what it means to be a a MAES therapist.
In our field, there’s often an unspoken pressure to constantly “do more,” to be the “best” therapist and to rush to solutions, to come up with an answer.
But just like the poem reminds us, sometimes that very pressure can actually hinder us. It can stop us from truly seeing and feeling what’s needed in the moment.
The week in Croatia on the ART MAES Course has reinforced where we need to be - we need to slow down, pause, and be truly conscious in how we approach every child’s difficulties. It’s about taking the time to think, analyse, and be present, rather than rushing to fix. This allows for deeper understanding and ultimately, more effective treatment where the child makes the changes rather than the therapist.
It’s a continuous practice and a focus for me in the coming weeks ✨
