On Friday 7th November, I had the pleasure of visiting Starfish Health and Wellbeing, located at 6–8 Yarm Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 3NA.

I was warmly welcomed by Peter Mayes and Catherine Wakeling, who kindly gave me a tour of their wonderful spaces and introduced me to some of the service users.

Starfish Health and Wellbeing are doing incredible work — their team is dedicated, compassionate, and deeply experienced in supporting wellbeing and mental health. They provide free support in a warm, safe and encouraging environment, and it’s clear to see the difference they make in people’s lives every single day.

In just 1.5 years, they’ve supported 64 young people into work or education, and specifically in Stockton, 90 young people have been referred to Starfish for help — with 30 already achieving positive progressions. These are exceptional results, especially considering many of those supported were some distance from the job market.
Starfish truly understand that poor mental health is part of being human — and that with the right support, everyone can learn, grow, and achieve their potential.

If you’re a local business with potential employment or training opportunities, I’d highly recommend reaching out to Starfish Health and Wellbeing. They are a fantastic organisation making a real and measurable difference in our community.

Thanks to the Mayor of Stockton who visited Starfish Today to see the work we do helping 16-30 year olds!
