Teaching children about how their brain works is a powerful intervention. Overwhelming feelings, panic attacks, rages, worried tummies, anxiety, and all sorts of other problems suddenly feel less scary and unmanageable.

(It also helps children not want to punch us in the face when they are mid-meltdown and we tell them to breathe!)

This is a great infographic and accompanying article by Blissful Kids that demonstrates how we can teach even young children about their complicated brain and how they can work with it.

This visual reminds me of a wonderful quote from Dr. Karen Treisman: "Every interaction can be an intervention."

Each time we interact with a young person (in fact, any person), we have the possibility of making a positive difference in their lives. This is especially true at times of conflict, heightened emotion, or distress. These are some wonderful questions to have floating around in the back of our minds (and on our walls) to remind us of the impact we have on others. What impact do you want to have?

❤️ and once we have grown around our grief that’s not always a permanent state of being. We can still move back through those jars where our grief has more impact due to life events such as anniversaries, birthdays and reminders of shared experiences. Where ever you are in the journey I hope you have the support you need there.
