Today is a day of Remembrance, for many every day is.

"Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep"

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

By Mary Elizabeth Frye

❀️...We will always remember ❀️

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

Met two amazing people today, Kyle and Sue! We realised we had already met previously at the Armed forces day in Longton earlier this year! Small world and had a really good chat...brought back some memories of the Brecon Beacons from my Army days! Just goes to show another reason to talk...the power of conversation is a wonderful thing!

A wonderful Wilderness Walk at Shugborough with Walk Leader Lee This morning, finishing off with a well-deserved cuppa at Canalside Cafe!

A steady 6.6 miles with a feast for the eyes with plenty to see. Here's a few words from Walk Leader Lee and Steve:

"It was a good walk, the Rain held off and the wildlife was all around us. We caught a glimpse of a kingfisher, as well as swans, buzzards, cormorants, longhorn cattle, and plenty of deer today. Lovely discussions about the various plants, trees and fungi as well as a good helping of local history." Lee

"we had a great walk with Lee and the gang. 6'6 miles. Saw dear, buzzard, heard kingfisher but couldn't get to see it. Think Lee saw one. Mexican longhorn. Cormorant on the canal. Chatted to each other about what we know about different things in the wild. Lots of great talks while walking. And got to know each other better. Had a nice cuppa at the end." Steve

A huge shout out to Andy for completing the whole Walk! Massive achievement from the Longton park to this whopper! Goal most definitely achieved!

Well done everyone!

The next Wilderness Walk is Tuesday 11th November *see website for more details* please ensure you read the requirements for the walk before attending as there is a level of fitness required to ensure your safety and enjoyment on all Wilderness Walks - Many Thanks 😊

A great first night for the Bushcraft Evening at the Retreat!

Bush leaders Trevor Bailey & Michael Vaughan delivered a very insightful session on a selection of knives and a talk on knife safety. Enjoyed a brew and some great conversation.

Its great to see so many turn out, apologies for those who got lost, we will ensure we give the What 3 Words for next week's session.

Big thanks to Staffordshire Bushcraft CIC 🧑
