World First Aid Day

First aid is not an optional skill; it's a responsibility we all share. It's a skill that empowers individuals to be the first responders in emergencies, potentially saving lives

CPR.

What to do if you have a casualty who is unconscious and not breathing normally.

1. Check Responsiveness. Ensure the safety of the scene and then check if the person is responsive by tapping them and shouting loudly, "Are you okay?"

2. Call for Help If the person is unresponsive or not breathing normally, call for emergency help (usually 999 or 112 in the UK) or ask someone nearby to call.

3. Start Chest Compression’s
- Place the heel of one hand on the center of the person's chest
- Place the other hand on top of the first hand (interlocking fingers)
- Use your upper body weight to push down hard and fast (at a rate of about 100-120 compressions per minute) to a depth of at least 5-6 centimeters (about 2.4 inches).
- Allow the chest to fully recoil between compressions.

4. Perform Rescue Breaths
- After 30 chest compressions, give two rescue breaths.
- Tilt the person's head back slightly and lift the chin to open the airway.
- Pinch the person's nose shut and breathe into their mouth until the chest rises.
- Repeat this process for two breaths.

5. Continue CPR Repeat cycles of 30 chest compressions followed by two rescue breaths until:
- Professional help arrives.
- The person shows signs of life and starts breathing normally.
- You are too exhausted to continue.

6. Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- If an AED is available, follow its instructions for use.

Happy First Aid day everyone. Remember! First Aiders save lives. Never will a paramedic, doctor or surgeon be with your casually before you.

Train to save a life!
