Ever noticed why some songs feel perfect to move to?

Turns out, that rhythm can save lives. 🫀

CPR works best at 100–120 beats per minute, and iconic tracks like “Stayin’ Alive” hit that sweet spot.

Keeping compressions on beat helps maintain the right pace when every second counts. Music acts like a built-in metronome—easy to remember under pressure.

So yeah, your playlist might be more powerful than you think. 🎶

Rhythm isn’t just for dancing… it can keep a heart going. ❤️

Research has repeatedly shown a troubling gap: women are less likely than men to receive bystander CPR when they collapse in public. This isn’t because women experience fewer cardiac events; it’s often due to hesitation and misconceptions. Some bystanders fear causing harm, misinterpret symptoms, or feel uncomfortable performing chest compressions on a woman’s body. These delays can be deadly, as immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chances of survival.

This disparity highlights how social bias and lack of confidence can shape life-or-death decisions. Cardiac arrest doesn’t look the same for everyone, and it doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. When bystanders hesitate, outcomes worsen—especially for women, whose symptoms are more likely to be dismissed or misunderstood.

That’s why learning first aid and CPR matters so much. Proper training builds confidence, cuts through fear, and reinforces a simple truth: action is better than inaction. Knowing what to do—and feeling empowered to do it—can help close this survival gap. First aid skills aren’t just technical know-how; they’re a commitment to showing up for anyone in need, without bias, when it matters most.

Abacus Training offers a range of First Aid courses including CPR & AED - give us a call if you would like to discuss your training needs.

South East Coast Ambulance Service calls for better CPR awareness as women remain less likely than men to receive lifesaving help in cardiac arrest.

🌍 International Epilepsy Day 🌍

Today is International Epilepsy Day, a reminder of the importance of understanding and supporting those living with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological condition that affects approximately 50 million people worldwide, and seizures can happen anytime — at work, at home, or in public. Knowing how to respond can make a real difference.

First aid training plays a key role in empowering people to act safely and confidently during a seizure. From keeping someone safe, protecting their head, to knowing when to call for emergency help, simple actions can prevent injury and save lives.

Raising awareness isn’t just about first aid skills — it’s also about reducing stigma and creating supportive communities. Everyone should feel equipped and confident to respond.

At Abacus Training, we ensure our courses include guidance on seizures, so participants leave ready to act in real-life situations. On this International Epilepsy Day, let’s commit to learning, understanding, and being prepared. 💜

💚 Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 💚

Did you know 1 in 5 children face mental health challenges?

Children’s Mental Health Week runs 9–15 February 2026, aiming to empower young people and spotlight the importance of mental wellbeing. Feeling secure and understood is vital for a child’s development and resilience.

For first aiders and emergency responders, recognising emotional distress, anxiety, panic, or behavioural crises is just as important as treating physical injuries. Being able to provide calm, compassionate support helps de‑escalate situations, build trust with children, and connect them with the right care.

By raising awareness during Children’s Mental Health Week, we can improve response quality, reduce stigma, and ensure young people feel heard, safe, and supported when it matters most.

💬 Time to Talk Day 2026 – Let’s Prioritise Mental Health 💬

Time to Talk Day is a reminder that small conversations can make a big difference.

For first aiders, mental health awareness is just as crucial as physical first aid. Responding to emergencies can be stressful, and recognising signs of distress in others—or ourselves—can save lives.

Being trained in first aid isn’t just about CPR and cuts; it’s about listening, supporting, and acting with empathy. First aiders can play a vital role in spotting anxiety, panic attacks, or emotional crises and guiding people towards the right support.

This Time to Talk Day, let’s commit to open conversations, reducing stigma, and looking after mental wellbeing—both for those we help and ourselves. Every chat counts. 💙
