YAS CFR, Stokesley & Hutton Rudby Community First Responders We are volunteers trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to respond to 999 calls in Stokesley and the surrounding area alongside the ambulance service

We are a team volunteers trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to respond to urgent 999 calls in Stokesley and the surrounding area. As authorised volunteers for the ambulance service, we work as part of a dedicated team whose aim is to reduce the number of Pre-Hospital deaths in Yorkshire. We are trained by YAS in basic life support skills, CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillators, and Oxygen Therapy. We work alongside the YAS crew and are not a replacement for the 999 service. We are always backed up by a YAS clinician. Our role is that of a first responder.

Today is the best day of my job.

A group of individuals from ALL walks of life, who 2 weekends ago, walked in to a room with different levels of knowledge, have all just walked out as CFRs in support of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

I Love my Job ❤️

Thanks to North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service for the use of their training room at Colburn Fire Station.

If you witness a cardiac arrest, it is important to call 999 and start CPR straight away.

Perform CPR by placing your hands on the centre of the person’s chest and interlocking your fingers.

Use your body weight to push down 5 to 6cm on their chest.

Repeat this at a rate of 2 per second until the person regains consciousness or an ambulance arrives.

One of our volunteers received a pin badge recently as recognition of their involvement in a successful resuscitation of a patient whose heart had stopped.

I qualified as a CFR at the in September as I needed a new focus and challenge after the loss of my husband of many years.
The role has given me the opportunity to give back to our community and meet some amazing people along the way. It really has been life changing.

Thank you so much to my Yorkshire Ambulance trainers, the training weekends were fantastic. We had a great intake with people from all different backgrounds.
All the crews and the ambulance dispatch staff have been so helpful and have made me feel hugely welcomed. Cheers everyone!

This was my first cardiac arrest, which was followed closely by a second a few days later and then a third a few days after that!!
I have learnt so much and feel so grateful to be a part of this amazing team. You are all awesome!!

A final huge thanks must go to my mentor and partner volunteer Morgan who has been with me on all of these jobs. He really is the best teacher, guide and support. He offers his time, commitment and passion to the CFR role selflessly. Always wanting to help others ❤️

Well done to you all, you’re the BEST!!
