I love old books & all the old wives' tales that come with them - but this choking advice? Absolutely not!

It’s that time of year again… here are some quick toy-buying safety tips to keep little ones safe this Christmas:

✅ Stick to brands and retailers you know and trust. Bargain copies of popular toys may not meet UK safety standards.

✅ If something looks or feels unsafe, trust your instincts and return it.

✅ Check for product recalls on the gov.uk website by searching “product recalls”.

Babies and toddlers explore by putting things in their mouths, so unsafe toys pose a bigger risk.

Avoid toys with:

👉 Confusing or missing age warnings

👉 Accessible button batteries

👉 Super-strong magnets

👉 Long cords or strings

👉 Small parts

👉 Water beads

👉 Exposed wires or unsafe chargers

Is your little one coming up to the stage of weaning and your not sure how to start, when to start, what to give or what to use. Let Catherine help you answer all your questions. She will take you through the signs of readiness, how to start and what foods to give, discuss meal ideas, discuss milk feeds and how they might change, how to avoid fussy eating and much more...

Fran will take you through allergies and what signs to look out for. She will also demonstrate what to do in the event of a choking incident. You will then get an opportunity to have a practice yourself.

Happy Bonfire Night! 🎆

You probably already know never to leave a child unsupervised with a sparkler, but did you know a sparkler can reach temperatures of over 1,000°C?

Here are some top tips to keep little ones safe:

👉 Children should wear gloves and hold sparklers at arm’s length.

👉 A clever trick: stick the sparkler in a carrot so they can hold the carrot instead!

👉 Always have a bucket of water nearby to safely dispose of used sparklers.

Sparklers are not recommended for children under 5.

Have fun celebrating Bonfire Night tonight, but remember - safety comes first! 💛
