⚠️ Industrial Action and temporary changes to Cheltenham A&E

Industrial action by Resident Doctors (BMA) will affect Cheltenham General Hospital’s A&E from Friday 14 to Wednesday 19 November. From 8pm on Thursday 13 Nov, Cheltenham A&E will operate as a Minor Injuries & Illness Unit (MIIU) during the strike to allow available emergency care staff to come together at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

🚑 From Friday 14 Nov, Cheltenham A&E will be open as an MIIU during the day (8am–8pm) and close overnight (8pm–8am).
Normal A&E services will resume 8am Wednesday 19 Nov.

❗Major emergencies will not be affected — ambulances will continue to take patients to the right place for care.
NHS 111 and 999 remain available as normal.

**IMPORTANT NOTICE**
Unfortunately there is a problem with our website and therefore patients are unable to submit online forms. Our website provider is working to resolve this and we apologise for any inconvenience that this has or may cause. Our phone lines are open and the front door is open if you need us.

We hope that the issue can be resolved over the weekend so that the website is back up and running on Monday. We will send out an update as and when we know more.

This afternoon, Tuesday 30 September, our clinical staff will be out of the practice for a training session. Therefore if you have a medical need that cannot wait until tomorrow please consider the alternative support available:
- Attend a community pharmacy
- Attend a Minor Injury and Illness Unit (Stroud or the Vale are the closest)
- Call 111
- For emergencies call 999 OR attend A&E

Our phone lines will remain open for any queries but if you have a medical need you may be directed to an alternative option. Our front desk will be manned should you wish to drop in any prescription requests or have any queries that our non-clinical staff can help with.

We will be back open as normal tomorrow - Wednesday 1 October

🍂Don't forget Gloucestershire's Minor Injury and Illness Units are there for you this autumn.

🏥 They are open from 8am until 8pm daily (last 'walk ins' at 7.30pm). There's free parking and you can book an appointment by ringing 111 or visiting NHS 111 online.

✅ MIIUs treat:
sprains, simple fractures, simple wounds, minor burns, minor head injuries with no loss of consciousness, minor illnesses (earaches, sore throats etc), rashes, bites, stings, infections and eye conditions like conjunctivitis. You can also get emergency contraception.

❌ They *do not* treat head injuries with loss of consciousness, alcohol related conditions, overdoses, complicated or serious injuries, long standing or major illnesses.

The new NHS 10-Year Plan talks about prevention, community care and digital reform.

But without real funding and urgent investment, it risks being just another plan that fails GPs and patients.
