It’s ok to say no to anything. You don’t need to give a long explanation, as no is a complete sentence.

Leading up to Christmas, we will all be bombarded with things/requests that we need to need or need to do. It’s ok to say no and put boundaries in place.

It’s seems overnight shops changed from autumnal decorations to Christmas 😮 Social media and tv ads are ramping up to make us spend money and pressurise us into booking lots of festive activities. This is your reminder that it’s ok to say no to these. After all this month is NO-vember.

We’ve been reflecting a lot recently on our
My Feelings and Me programme. The programmes success has a lot to do with the fact that we choose to run it in schools. We do this purposefully for many reasons, including:

• Reduction in any further cost to parents/carers.
• Less pressure on parents/carers capacity.
• Normalising that everyone has mental health which is why we run the sessions as groups.
• Familiar routine and environment for children.
• People may think that mental health education is taught in schools, but IT IS NOT.

Following on from yesterday’s stories about all the wonderful half term activities that are on offer, we wanted to highlight that rest is equally as important. In fact, we encourage you to have a stay at home day. This will support children (and you) to recharge and prepare for all the excitement that the next couple of months bring.

Part of our kindness discussions in My Feelings and Me this week has also explored how we are kind to ourselves.

How often do you agree to things when really you wanted to say no?

Children sometimes get little choice in how free time is spent. Is there anywhere in your week where you can give choice back to your child as an act of kindness?

How do you feel when you show kindness to others and when others are kind back to you? The beautiful thing about kindness is that it has a reciprocal effect, where not only the person giving feels good, but also the person receiving it feels good too.

We live in a consumer society but it’s important to remember that kindness is free. You don’t need to do big gestures to show kindness but small ones, such as smiling, holding a door open for someone, cooking dinner etc.

How can you show kindness to others and yourself today?

We have had some very interesting discussions this week in our groups about kindness. Following this, we are curious. What does kindness look like for you?

If you are greeted by someone whilst on a morning walk, do you say hello back? Or do you find this uncomfortable?

Those with dogs have you notice a difference when out for a walk without your dog? Do people still greet you?

No judgement here we are just curious.
