How I went from being Skinny and Weak to becoming my own Superhero
At 16 years old, I was a competitive swimmer and active in various
other sports, including kickboxing
But I was extremely skinny and physically weak
Everything changed for me one day at Centre Parcs
I decided all I wanted was massive biceps and a 6-pack
The realisation hit…..I wanted to be hench and to never get trouble from anyone
I quit swimming and joined my first gym, which was at my college
My mum came in and paid for a year’s membership
I wanted to be the biggest guy ever to walk the planet
I had no idea what I was doing
I used the same machines in the same order with the same intensity every time
And made little progress
Clueless didn’t cover it
Over the next 10 years of training I put on a little bit of muscle
But, despite building up a fair bit of strength my chest was seriously lagging
And looked tiny in comparison to my arms
My first major turning point was during chest press when I discovered if I
pushed the weight only with my chest the difference was unreal
The pump was mental and it meant for the first time ever I was actually training my chest
And it started to grow
I applied this idea to every exercise I could
And this is what I partly put down to my explosive growth
Although this was only half the story
It took me a further 10 years before I understood nutrition
I purchased a meal plan from a guy I knew at the gym
Which taught me structure and macros
This was the beginning of my nutrition education
In 2018 I did a PT qualification
Because of my airport security shifts it took me 1.5 years to complete
But I finally got it done and PT’d numerous clients at a few gyms
This taught me the basics about working with real people
And understanding their individual problems
After joining the app “Clubhouse” in 2021 it became apparent
how big a fitness knowledge gap I had
It was this that prompted me to get formally educated
In the years that proceded, I completed over 5 nutrition courses
Most notably, a Level 4, a Level 5, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sports Nutrition
