Play safe and get rid of old medication 💊

💊 What’s Sitting in Your Cupboard Could Cost a Life 💊

Take a moment today and think…
Are there old painkillers in a drawer?

Out-of-date antibiotics in the bathroom cabinet?

Medication that’s no longer needed sitting forgotten on a shelf?

Illegit drugs?

It only takes seconds for curious little hands, vulnerable teenagers, or someone struggling silently to find them.

Unused and expired medications in our homes are not harmless. They can be misused, accidentally taken, or fall into the wrong hands.

Across our communities, families are living with the devastating consequences of drug misuse, consequences that often begin closer to home than we realise.
We can all play a part in preventing harm.

Please check your cupboards today. Gather up any unused or out-of-date medicines. And deposit them safely into your local Community Drug Bin @ The Hub - Greater Ballycolman Community Centre.

Heavy rain may lead to some flooding and travel disruption.

Yellow Warning for RAIN between 1200hrs Thursday 5th and 2359hrs Friday 6th February 2026.

The Met Office has issued a YELLOW WARNING FOR RAIN – Very Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts.

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings #?date=2020-10-31&id=1602e960-09cf-4d07-b597-972120cad353

What To Expect

Spray and flooding will lead to difficult driving conditions and possibly road closuresBus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longerSome interruption to power supplies and other services possible Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possibleStrong winds, generating large waves and spray, may present dangerous conditions for exposed coastal communities.

Met Office – Further Details

Areas of rain will continue to spread northwestwards across Northern Ireland during Thursday, Thursday night and much of Friday. Rain will be heavy at times and may lead to some flooding and travel disruption in places. The majority of places are most likely to see 10-20 mm of rain and low level impacts, with some southeast facing hills seeing 40-50 mm through this period.

Rain is expected to be particularly persistent over the east and southeast facing slopes of the Mourne Mountains and Antrim Hills, which may receive 60-80 mm; here low impacts are most likely overall with a small chance they could be medium.

At the same time, strong to gale forecast east to southeast winds may lead to some difficult travel conditions and large waves along Irish Sea coasts.

**What Should I Do?

Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.

Strabane Residents:

Stand Up. Speak Out. Show Up.

Violence against women and girls is an unacceptable reality that continues to harm lives, families, and our community. Violence against anyone is wholly unacceptable, and now is the time to say, no more.

We cannot allow this cycle to continue in silence.

Every resident has a role to play. By standing together, by being visible, and by showing up in numbers, we send a clear and powerful message:

Strabane does not tolerate violence against women and girls. In fact we stand against violence of any nature!

Violence towards men, woman & children is totally unacceptable.

On 10th February, from 10:00am to 1:00pm, at the Fir Trees Hotel, Strabane, we are asking residents to come together in solidarity with victims of domestic violence, to show them they are not alone, not forgotten, and not unheard.

Your presence matters.

Just one hour of your day will send an unequivocal message to perpetrators, decision-makers, and the wider society that our community stands firmly with victims and survivors.

It tells women and young girls that Strabane stands by them and for them.

This is about compassion.
This is about courage.
This is about community.

Let us stand strong. Let us stand united. Let us show, through our numbers, that enough is enough.

Join us. Be counted. Be part of the change.

What To Expect

Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affectedSome roads and bridges likely to closeThere is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverageProbably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofsFlying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to lifeInjuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties

Met Office – Further Details

Easterly winds will increase early on Tuesday morning bringing gusts of 60-70 mph to eastern and northern parts of Northern Ireland with a few coastal locations seeing gusts of 75 mph. Heavy rain will be an additional hazard.

Winds may ease a little early in the afternoon, before increasing to similar speeds once more from a south-easterly direction late afternoon and early evening.

Large waves could bring additional impacts to some eastern coastal areas.

**What Should I Do?

Driving in these conditions can be dangerous, for yourself and other road users. If you must drive, you can do this more safely by taking the following actions; drive slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts, be aware of high sided vehicles/caravans on more exposed roads and be cautious when overtaking, and give cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries, and buses more room than usual.

Being outside in high winds makes you more vulnerable to injury. Stay indoors as much as possible. If you do go out, try not to walk, or shelter, close to buildings and trees. In advance of high winds, check for loose items outside your home and secure them. Items include; bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences.

If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea. Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on a lead. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

Stay up to date with the weather forecast for your area and follow advice from emergency services and local authorities.

* A Call to Stand Together – Strabane Says Enough*

To Ministers, elected representatives at Stormont and Council level, to our community and voluntary sector, EVAWG-funded organisations, practitioners, frontline workers, Secondary Schools and to every Strabane resident:

'WE MAKE THIS CALL'

Violence in any form has no place in our society. Violence against women and girls is not inevitable, it is not acceptable, and it must never be tolerated.

Silence and absence only allow it to continue.

Strabane has long been steadfast in standing up against violence. Our community has shown resilience, compassion, and courage time and again.

Now is the moment to reaffirm that commitment, visibly, collectively, and without hesitation.

We are calling on you to turn out, stand up, and be counted.
Your presence matters. Your leadership matters. Your voice matters.

By coming together, we can put Strabane firmly on the map as a community that is united, determined, and unwavering in its stance to stamp out violence against all, especially violence against women and girls.

This is not just a policy issue, a funding issue, or a professional responsibility. It is a moral duty shared by us all.

On 10th February 2026 at 10:00am, at the Fir Trees Hotel, Strabane, we will gather not just to talk, but to demonstrate our collective resolve.

Let the room be filled with those who refuse to look away. Let the numbers speak louder than words.

Let our presence send a clear message to victims, perpetrators, and decision-makers alike: Strabane will not tolerate violence.

This event is about solidarity. It is about leadership. It is about showing women and girls that they are believed, valued, protected, and supported by their community.

Attend. Stand shoulder to shoulder. Mark our determination.

Together, we can help bring about real change. Together, we can say with one voice:

Enough is enough. Violence has no home here.

stands firm.
stands together.
stands against violence.
