Newson Clinic co-founder Dr Rebecca Lewis explains how testosterone can help restore more than just libido for women.

We carried out a review of 1,200 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women prescribed transdermal testosterone for at least three months. The audit found an improvement in symptoms associated with low libido, but the biggest symptom improvement was seen in mood and anxiety-related symptoms*.

At Newson Clinic we work with you to individualise your testosterone dose and monitor your response to treatment. We use blood tests to guide whether your testosterone levels and free androgen index fall within the physiological range for women to ensure that your testosterone dose is the right dose for you.

Did you know low levels of vitamin D are linked to issues like depression, low mood, muscle pain, weakened bones and a vulnerable immune system – all of which are already a risk during hormonal fluctuation and decline.

In the UK and many other countries, achieving adequate Vitamin D levels through sun exposure alone is challenging, especially during the winter months when sunlight is limited. This makes supplementation very beneficial for many.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of hormonal fluctuation that could be linked to vitamin D deficiency or hormonal imbalance, our clinicians are here to help with individualised treatment plans.

HRT is recognised as the first line treatment for perimenopause and menopause for the majority of women.

It is the most effective way to improve symptoms, and it can also work to protect your future health, reducing the risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, dementia…the list goes on.

If you’re thinking about HRT, swipe to read some key points from Dr Louise Newson's article: 10 FAQ about HRT.

On average, women can spend more than a decade in poor health at the end of life, often due to preventable conditions like osteoporosis, heart disease and cognitive decline.

A new study looking at data from over 120 million patient records has highlighted how important estradiol is for long-term health.

The study found that women who used estradiol for at least 10 years before menopause were around 60% less likely to develop breast cancer, have a heart attack or experience a stroke compared to those who never used hormones. Even women who started HRT after menopause saw some protective benefit.

Natural HRT isn’t just about relieving symptoms. It plays a key role in protecting your bones, heart and brain.

In Hormones Unlocked - the most comprehensive online hormones and menopause course ever created – Dr Louise Newson discusses the link between hormones and disease in the chapter ‘Hormones: How they help fight ageing’.
