THE AVERAGE GAMES 2026

A test of Olympic lifting, calisthenics, strength and cardio.

But more importantly a test of teamwork, grit and determination.

All in the name of charity ☺️

There aren’t enough words to describe how impressive these humans are.

I am beyond proud of them all ❤️

Huge thanks to everyone who made it happen - the coaches, judges, athletes and spectators, and to for doing an incredible job of capturing so many great moments on the day 🙏

A snapshot of a busy Wednesday weightlifting session for our 10-13 year olds!

There are so many children in Swindon who are taking an interest in weightlifting and not enough places that offer them the chance to learn it under careful qualified supervision.

So we are putting on a new session on Mondays 5-5:45pm, starting 2nd March!

Please get in touch if you’d like your child to come and try it with us ☺️

Even if not, please tell your friends we exist! The number of times we hear ‘I’ve been looking for something like this for ages and didn’t know it existed in Swindon’ - every share is greatly appreciated ☺️🙏

STARTING NEXT WEEK: a brand new course for 10-13 year olds!

Due to the increasing amount of interest we have had in our children's sessions, we will be putting on a 4-week course for new children starting next Monday 2nd March ☺

This is the perfect time if your child has been thinking of giving weightlifting a go, as everyone on the course will start as beginners together.

INTRODUCING COACH KIERAN 🏋️‍♂️

Not everyone starts with us as a beginner.

Kieran had some of the best lifting technique I’ve ever seen for someone who was largely self-taught!

But since joining, he has achieved new PBs on all his lifts, with this milestone 100kg sn**ch being a particularly impressive highlight 💪👏

He is now a fully qualified PT and Level 2 British Weightlifting Coach, bringing an unmatched level of kindness and enthusiasm to both our kids and adults classes.

I am so glad he decided to try our group sessions and coaching, and love seeing him repaying the favour by helping the next cohort/generation fall in love with weightlifting as he once did ☺️

ENSEMBLE AWARDS 2025 - MEMBER OF THE YEAR

Two years ago, Carla simply brought her boys each week to our youth weightlifting sessions.

Then she made the brave decision to try a beginner course herself…and everything changed!

It has been a privilege to see her confidence grow and her achieve SO much in a short period of time. Our other members put it perfectly:

ENSEMBLE AWARDS 2025 - YOUNG MEMBER OF THE YEAR

As we go into 2026 and reflect on how we could be different next year…

…we should look for inspiration from our kids, and especially young people like Sofia.

✅ she isn’t afraid of trying new things

✅ she wants to improve herself and isn’t bothered about ‘looking silly’ or ‘not being good enough to start’

✅ she strikes a great balance between a working hard and just having FUN

Sofia has been so impressive in her attitude and performance since starting with us this year, continuously setting new personal bests and winning multiple in-house competitions.

And yet there is still so much untapped potential we have yet to discover in 2026! We can’t wait to see it.

Well done Sofia 👏👏👏

ENSEMBLE AWARDS 2025 - ACHIEVEMENT OF THE YEAR

We have celebrated so many achievements this year that it’s hard to choose a favourite 😍

Olympic Weightlifting is arguably just as much of a mental challenge as a physical one.

And sometimes, hitting certain milestone numbers can feel impossible because the head says no 🙈

Therefore, this award has to go to two people who have overcome this issue to achieve their goals on the board for the year 🙌

Danny - for his awesome 60kg sn**ch, 80kg clean and jerk and target 140kg total 😍

Kirsty - for finally smashing a 35kg sn**ch, even with the 10kg plates instead of allll the fractionals (if you know, you know 🤣)

It was an emotional and very proud moment to see these guys hit these numbers they have chased all year 🥹 well done both!!!

It’s amazing to see every year.

Today marks 4 amazing years of Ensemble Weightlifting ❤️

Happy to see many original members are still here, still getting stronger and fitter, but most importantly, still enjoying training with us ☺️

And the gym only continues to grow and get better - with more kids, more adults, another dog and for the first time this year, permanent additions to the coaching team! 😍

Ensemble was never meant to be a solo operation and I am so grateful to have found the right people to be able to take a slight step back from coaching every class, every day 😆 more about them soon…

Thanks to everyone who has played a part in Ensemble over the years 🥰 the best, most exciting year is yet to come 🙌

What does the ideal beginner weightlifter look like…?? 🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♀️

Sure, having great mobility and a long torso make weightlifting much more comfortable when you’re starting out.

But the key to success when learning weightlifting has nothing to do with the physical…

The ideal beginner is:

✅ able to put their ego to one side and focus on technique before adding weight

✅ patient - results and improvement take time (a LONG time!)

✅ resilient - understanding that failure is an important and useful part of the process

✅ coachable - realising that feedback is there to help you lift better (and not a vicious attack on your personal character 🤣)

Huge props to Gregory here, who has demonstrated all of the above and is lifting impressively well after just over 10 sessions! 👏👏

Another term has come and gone…and again I’ve done a rubbish job of documenting how brilliantly our kids have been doing 🤣🙈

Here’s Oliver, in his second year of strength training to complement his football performance, lifting significantly more than his body weight with great technique 👏

Unfortunately we continue to have waitlists in place for our Wednesday and Friday sessions…

…but we DO have space on Mondays and Thursdays next term (5-5:45pm) ☺️
