🌍 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🫁

Today, we recognise World Pneumonia Day — a global call to action to raise awareness of pneumonia, the world’s single biggest infectious killer of adults and children.

Here’s what you should know:

Pneumonia claimed an estimated 𝟐.𝟐 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏, including around 𝟓𝟎𝟐 𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞.

Both the very young and the elderly are especially vulnerable — children in low vaccination areas or homes with indoor air pollution, and older adults exposed to air pollution or smoking.

The good news: pneumonia is 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 with existing tools — vaccines, good nutrition, clean air, early diagnosis and treatment.

We’re already seeing more flu cases across the UK, especially among children and younger adults. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is encouraging everyone who’s eligible to 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐮 𝐣𝐚𝐛 as soon as possible.

Recent figures show:
📈 More people visiting their GP with flu-like symptoms
🏥 Hospital admissions for flu have almost doubled in a week
🧪 More people testing positive for flu

The flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and those around you — especially older relatives, young children, and anyone with long-term health conditions.

Most people can’t name the symptoms of pancreatic cancer - can you?
Spotting the signs early can make a big difference.

🚨 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
👉 Indigestion
👉 Tummy or back pain
👉 Changes to your poo
👉 Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
👉 Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes, or itchy skin)

If you have any of these symptoms and aren’t sure why, please don’t ignore them.
