Today we pause to remember.
Our Day Centre clients and Cotswold Unit residents have been busy creating heartfelt tributes for Remembrance Sunday, Armistice Day and marking the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII.
From crochets poppies adorning our walls and stairs, to beautifully painted poppies and pebble art, these crafts are a touching way to honour those who served and sacrificed.
Armistice Day commemorates the agreement signed on 11 November 1918, which ended fighting on the Western Front during the First World War. It marked the beginning of peace after four years of conflict and is a day to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of all who served.

🎆💥 Explosive fun at Horsfall House this week celebrating Bonfire Night!
From dazzling arts and crafts to baking sessions with a bang, our residents and clients marked the 420th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot with plenty of sizzle and sparkle. 🔥🧁
🎨🧨 Our Bonfire Cake got a fabulous flair-up thanks to Peter, Peggy and Susan, with a big shoutout to expert baker Liz! 🎂✨
Meanwhile, over at the Cotswold unit, the craft board is lighting up with its very own silent firework display — no bangs, just beauty! 🎨🎇
💡Fun Fact: The Houses of Parliament are still searched today by the Yeoman of the Guard usually just before the State Opening of Parliament😉

Work with Us! Finance Manager at Horsfall House

Join us in making a meaningful impact in our community through sound financial stewardship.

Horsfall House is seeking a dedicated part-time Finance Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of financial management within our charity. This pivotal role will support the CEO and Board of Trustees by providing strategic financial guidance, ensuring robust financial controls and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. Working closely with the Treasurer, you will play a key role in safeguarding the financial integrity of Horsfall House.

Key Responsibilities:
Advise the CEO and Board on financial performance and strategy.
Prepare and deliver accurate management accounts and maintain comprehensive financial records.
Lead financial planning, KPI reporting and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Manage invoicing, bank reconciliations, purchasing processes and the fixed asset register.
Serve as the main contact for external auditors and oversee Company Secretarial duties.

What we’re looking for:
CCAB accounting qualification desirable, with experience leading small teams.
Collaborative and adaptable, able to work effectively across departments.
Strategic thinker with a proactive mindset and commitment to service improvement.
Experience in the care sector is a plus, but not essential.
A commitment to the values and charitable aims of Horsfall House.

Things got boo-tifully festive this week! Our Gatcombe unit was treated to a visit from some little beautiful monsters who came dressed to thrill and handed out fang-tastic pumpkin oranges! 🍊🧙♀️
Meanwhile, in our Day Centre, residents got into the carve-y spirit with some gourd-geous pumpkin carving and goo-ey ghost treats 👻 The creativity was simply un-boo-lievable! 🕸️

🎶 Autumn Tunes & Tasty Treats at Horsfall House! 🎶
We had a majestically musical afternoon at Horsfall House as residents, clients, their families and friends were serenaded by the fabulous Philip Heyman of Mezzo Vivo! From Elgar to Nancy Sinatra, Camila Cabello to The Pogues, Philip's repertoire hit all the right chords. 🎻
Guests enjoyed delicious canapés, indulgent petit fours and our chef’s chart-topping sausage rolls, all perfectly paired with a tipple of their choice. 🍷🥐
A huge shoutout to our amazing activities team and volunteers who made the event sing whilst raising £106 towards future activities 💛 It was true harmony of good company, great music and joyful vibes.

🥁 Drumroll, please...🥁 The winner of our Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar competition is: 🎉 Cilla Weaver 🎉 whose amazing guess of 896 was just two sweets off the actual number of 894 - a candy-licious congratulations to you!
Thanks again everyone who took part and a special thank you to Minchinhampton Surgery, who donated £40 by hosting their own Wear it Pink day and helped us raise a fantastic £177 for Breast Cancer Now

We’ve gone full-on fabulous for Wear it Pink Day rocking our brightest pinks to show love and support for and to raise funds for life-saving research and support. 💖
Thank you to our fab kitchen team who baked up delicious pink cupcakes 🙏 and a massive huge shout out to Carol from our Day Centre for organising everything and adding a sweet twist to the day with the “How Many Sweets in the Jar?” 🍬👀 a sugary showdown that's had everyone guessing for a week!

🏆 Social Care Nurse of the Year - Winner: Sue McIntyre, Cotswold Unit
Sue, a cherished member of our nursing dementia unit since 2002, was honoured for her unwavering commitment and care. Her dedication to residents, especially during palliative care, and her support for colleagues make her truly one of a kind. Sue now goes forward as a nominee for the Great British Care Awards!

As the only remaining Day Centre in the Stroud area, our team support up to 25 clients daily, many living with dementia. With more than 80 years of combined experience, the team delivers personalised and responsive care with joyful, engaging activities that bring comfort and connection to all who attend.

🌟 Volunteer of the year Award - Highly Commended: Kate Charsley
Kate’s connection to Horsfall House runs deep as not only is she a Trustee and our Treasurer, but her father, Dr. Booth, helped found our home over 30 years ago. Kate and her family continue his legacy with tireless dedication, fundraising and leadership, to ensure Horsfall House retains its charitable status and remains a vital community service.
