We are so looking forward to the Stroud Film Festival screening of 'The Luddenden Shroud' on Sunday 1 March, 3pm at the Trinity Rooms Community Hub.

If you haven't already got your ticket to watch this beautiful short film please head to our linktree bio or this link: https://www.stroudfilmfestival.org/theluddendenshroud

You'll be able to view the hand-felted shroud and foraged woven cradle, enjoy the film and meet the Shroud's maker, Rachel Hawthorn, during the post-screening Q+A. The panel includes Family Tree owner Jane Diamond, willow grower and weaver Helen Lomberg, and will be chaired by Kat Child.

The film is produced by Geoff Brokate and tells the story of the making of the shroud for Luddenden Valley resident, Janet. It documents Rachel and Janet's journey of making and reflection together. The result is a death-positive meditation on friendship and the healing powers of nature and creativity.

⚰This is the third in our series of posts about coffin-friendly venues where a funeral ceremony can take place.

❤End of life is a major life event, and choosing the right setting for a funeral or celebration of life is just as important as where we mark births, christenings and weddings. These occasions help families gather, remember and honour a life in a way that truly reflects the person they love.

📍The Trinity Rooms Community Hub in Stroud is one such local space that families can consider when arranging a funeral, memorial or celebration of life, with the option for the coffin to be present. It offers a warm, accessible and welcoming hall with beautiful natural light, suitable for gatherings, ceremonies and events, and can be hired specifically for these occasions.

👉🏽As a Community Hub, Eco Hub and Food Hub, Trinity Rooms hosts activities that benefit the environment, support health and well-being, improve social connection, tackle poverty and promote sustainable development, including food hub sessions and a community café on a pay-as-you-can basis. By choosing a venue rooted in this kind of community care, families can feel that their loved one’s farewell is held within the same values of kindness and solidarity that shaped their everyday life.

📍The Trinity Rooms is close to Holy Trinity Church in Stroud, offering added convenience for families who wish to combine a church service with a more flexible community-based gathering before or after. Whether a family wants something traditional, informal or entirely personal, highlighting local spaces like Trinity Rooms helps broaden choice and ensures each farewell can be crafted in the same thoughtful way as other key life celebrations. Head to their website for further info.

🎬If you haven’t yet visited, Family Tree is arranging a film screening of ‘The Luddenden Shroud’ which will be showcased at the Hub on Sunday 1 March 2026 at 3.30pm as part of the Stroud Film Festival. Tickets are available from the festival website or via our linktree bio.

Excellent advice from • as always🙏🏻:- “I just need to get through the funeral.”

Have you heard someone say this? Or perhaps said it yourself?

For many people, they arrive at the day of the funeral with the sole aim of ‘getting through it’. That is entirely valid.

Funerals can be long, exhausting and emotional days, especially if you are involved in organising it. Here we share some tips to help you take care of yourself on the day of the funeral - so you can get what you need out of the day.

We spend so much time planning the milestones of life – engagement parties, baby showers, christenings and weddings. A death in the family also calls for a very particular, but just as carefully considered, gathering to honour a loved one's life.

For some families, that means choosing a warm, welcoming venue away from a church or crematorium, where people can sit together, share stories and take their time. The Stroud Hotel, in the heart of the town, offers exactly that kind of setting.

Their private function space is step free. The space can be arranged for a simple ceremony, a memorial event or a funeral tea, with food, drink and music planned accordingly. Set in a newly revived Grade II listed building with a contemporary, relaxed feel, it’s somewhere local people can come together in comfort.

If you think a central Stroud venue like The Stroud Hotel might be right for your family, we can talk through options with you and help coordinate everything, from the ceremony itself to time together afterwards. Please contact us on 01453 767769 to start the conversation.

Family Tree Funeral Company owner Jane Diamond will be joining the panel for “Living Well to Die Well,” a free, community debate and discussion at Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton, on Thursday 12 February at 7pm, with refreshments available.

Jane will be speaking in her role as a representative for End of Life Doula UK, sharing how end-of-life doulas can help make the final chapter more dignified and peaceful for individuals and families.

She will be alongside keynote speaker Lisa‑Jayne Lewis, author, end‑of‑life educator and community developer, and Dr Ian Donald, retired geriatrician and author, each offering short talks before an open audience Q&A.

The evening will explore Christian and non‑Christian perspectives on “living well to die well,” creating space for honest questions about ageing, dying and how we care for one another at the end of life.

All are warmly invited; entry is free, donations are welcome, and questions from the audience will shape the closing discussion.

✨Such a joyous morning spent at the Stroud Business Women's Network event today.

Jane (owner) and Annabel (Social Media) at Family Tree enjoyed a vibrant networking session hosted by Erin's Natural Cookery School. Keynote speaker was coach, author and presenter Stephanie Hill who enlightened and enlivened us all, as she shared her Fizziology business methods. Laughter it seems has always been the best medicine - combined with movement and positive language use, it can unlock your inner spark!

There was a ROOM FULL of hilarity and spark - so much needed for by us all at this time of year! Stephanie uses her Fizziology approach with teams to allow them to be their very best selves in the workplace and beyond - do look her up

Stroud Business Women's Network is an affordable, welcoming, supportive non-for-profit membership organisation where business success is about connection and not competition who offer meets twice a month. Judging by the numbers there today, their group is clearly the one to be part of!

It was uplifting to connect with so many brilliant women business owners and to be reminded of the 'fizz' within us all!

🌿 Celebration of life venues: the first in a series of Family Tree posts about local venues that offer to host a funeral with the coffin present.🌿

The Old Lodge, Minchinhampton

⚰For families looking for a relaxed, welcoming space to gather with the coffin present, The Old Lodge on Minchinhampton Common is a beautiful option. Set right on top of the common, it feels tucked away from busy roads, yet is easy to reach from Stroud and the surrounding valleys, with plenty of parking close by.

Inside, The Old Lodge has the feel of a cosy country pub and guesthouse, with nooks, open fires and friendly staff, as well as six comfortable bedrooms for those travelling from further afield. Step outside and you are met with wide, uplifting views across the Cotswolds – a setting that can feel both grounding and expansive on the day of a funeral or memorial gathering.

Their in-house team are experienced in hosting private events, and the food is excellent – from relaxed buffets to more formal meals – making it well suited to a personalised celebration of life or post-funeral reception. Families can usually use one space for time with the coffin present, and then move naturally into sharing memories, food and time together.

🌿 Nailsworth Death Café – 28th January 2026

☕ A Death Café is a not-for-profit gathering where people come together to talk openly about death, dying and everything in between – over tea, cake and kind conversation. There's no agenda, no speaker and no selling; just a relaxed, safe space to explore a topic that touches us all.

☕ The idea began with Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz's Café Mortel in 2004 and was brought to the UK by Jon Underwood in 2011, whose family continue to support the global Death Café movement today.

☕ Death Cafés now take place all over the world, offering ordinary people the chance to share experiences, ask questions and gently normalise conversations about mortality. It isn't a counselling or bereavement group, but you're warmly welcome if you are bereaved.

☕ In Nailsworth, the Death Café is co-hosted by volunteers Jane Diamond and Tracey Clements every two months at:

The Canteen, Nailsworth, GL6 0DU

Wednesday 28th January, 7.30–9.15pm (arrive a little earlier to buy a drink)

Free to attend, no need to book – just turn up

☕ To find out more about the Death Café movement visit or the website, or contact Jane using the details on the poster.
