• Coltsfoot •

Are you are here again this year in a new spot I haven’t seen you at before. Below the fallen horse chestnut by the main road on a bank that gets muddy easily and rarely sees sunlight.

Your flowers have come up first and will soon be fine making way for the leaves.

I still have a slight cough from the bug I caught 6 weeks ago and now coltsfoot remind me to work with respiratory herbs that grow close to me.

As spring tries to peek up so too does the season of harvesting and much herbal work.

I won’t collect these, they are too few but I love coltsfoot. It is a widely used herb all over Europe for coughs. It is also one with alkaloids that we need to be aware of.

An older name for this little gem is coughwort - telling you all you need to know ❤️

• Rest •

A flame for Claudia.

Learning of the passing of this incredible, strong, brave and committed woman, Claudia, has been hard.

May you rest in eternal peace and solidarity with all that you fought for and all whom you cared deeply for.

Claudia was up for helping, unafraid to speak up and moved with her heart. She wrote the last chapter of our book and had masses of writing waiting to be made into something that might change your life forever.

The journey together wasn’t always smooth but she was a formidable power and support to many many people, students and peers.

As a herbalist she went where others won’t in the name of anti-oppression.

She also adored plants ❤️🙏🏽

Blessings on your passing Claudia Manchanda. You live on in many.

• Renewal •

Whispers for wintry retreat and spring awakening.

Cleavers coming up in the lawn where last spring cleavers only came in the hedge. Tiny shoots of this plant kin greening the clover lawn.

As they grow a little more I’ll be cold infusing them for a spring lymphatic tonic.

Hydrangea holding on over winter as the body of this kin decays. Soon enough the wintryness will let go and mulch the soil beneath while the spring shoots start their business.

This is a time of renewal and rebirth, cycles of earth in motion.

• Imbolc •

As Imbolc approaches we can feel the light diffusing the edges of the dusk and dawn as the winter nights begin to recede.

Tiny snowdrops are out and the energy of winter is changing.

A gentle reminder to light a candle in the still dark eves.

Also Earth Medicine - our year long foundation in herbal medicine has 5% off until Imbolc. This course will be held in Stroud and has a good group gathering and some special guest teachers too 😍

• Winter •

Blessings from me to you all this winter’s midnight.

This weekend I’ll be on the long barrow in the darkness with lanterns and friends to guide in the light coming back. Manifesting what we’d like to bring about into the spring and summer. May you find what you need.

• Water •

A weekend of water, wild, winter and wood in Wales.

The second weekend in our year long Herbal Foundations.

This elements was wild this weekend with snow, hail, floods and puddles. The rivers were almost at capacity - their banks close to bursting.

We journeyed with softening soothing plant kin and learned about balance with fiery remedies and root nourishment.

We went into grief and emotion and the ways water touches us in life.

Always learning while we are teaching 🩵🙏🏽

• Year Long Herbal Foundations •

Loving teaching this course to so many beautiful and engaged folk.

This weekend is all about water, wild and winter with plant kin woven throughout.

Flow, depth, reflection, grief, play, stillness, abundance, sacred, soothe. All watery elemental states.

Marshmallow, liquorice, turkey tail, horseradish and elecampane have graced us with their medicine. All so soothing and opening.

• Moons •

While working with my therapist we journeyed into part of my own emotional landscape.

I came across women each holding their own moon. Some were full, some were dark. Each woman tended her own moon as she worked with water, soil, stars or self. Each one supporting the other but holding space of self.

I held this image in my heart and while this sketch isn’t quite that, it’s a nod to the tending of one’s moon, of one’s celestial importance while also tending the community, the earth, each other.

It is hard to look after others when we are not replenished. It is hard to look after self when others are nourished. So we look to balance. I look to learning to care for myself so that I might better care for others and for earth.

• Cacao Elixirs •

These feel like they are for deep winter wondering. Aromatic with cardamom, rose and hawthorn infused in cacao. They are sweet and for tending the deeper self as you might wander through your emotional landscape as the dark draws near.

Nourishing, supportive and gently opening these are elixirs with magic woven in.
