Happy Birthday dear Eunice, Happy Birthday to you 💫

Eunice at Langfield Care Home recently turned 90 and had a wonderful day celebrating with her friends and the whole Langfield team. With a gorgeous cake, a delicious buffet and the most perfect ballons and decorations, you'd think the day couldn't have been any better... but you'd be wrong!

Eunice was a Piano Teacher and always had such a passion for music, so her family arranged for a keyboard and stand to be delivered to the home for her birthday for her to play whenever she'd like. How thoughtful and lovely 🥹 🎹

Fun fact: Eunice can speak French fluently and her close family live in Canada!

Joanne and Alma, the superstars of Three Bridges Nursing Home! 🌟 💛

Senior Care Assistants Alma and Joanne have both recently celebrated incredible workaversaries, having dedicated many many years to providing high quality care with a smile on their faces at Three Bridges 👏

Alma is celebrating 20 years and Joanne, 25 years - they both love the atmosphere of the home and say that everyone is always smiling and laughing with each other.

To celebrate Alma and Joanne’s long service awards, the pair were celebrated with gifts, cards and hugs all round. A huge congratulations to them both!

A shopping trip with your best friend = the perfect afternoon 🛍️

Peter and Kathy at Archers Court Care Home have been the best of pals since Kathy moved into Archers Court in 2023, where Peter was already living. They share lots of hobbies and interests (particularly horses) and they love to spend the afternoons chatting away with one another and doing activities!

Home Manager Sharon says: “When you look at them spending time together, you see something lovely, a connection which is so real and melts my heart” 🥹

Thanks to the Archers Court team for always planning activities and trips for residents to spend quality time together!

A huge Congratulations is in order for Sarah Golden-Hill, who has recently completed her CQC Registration for the first time at Castleford Lodge Nursing Home and officially become Registered Manager! ✨

Sarah stepped into her role of Home Manager in January this year, after working her way up the ranks over the last 12 years. She first joined Orchard Care Homes as a Care Assistant back in 2013 - she is so glad she took that leap into the care sector, and so are we 🤩

The certification, overseen by the CQC, is awarded only after a thorough application process that evaluates several key criteria — including the applicant’s understanding of care laws and regulations, their compliance with relevant standards, and their suitability to be registered as a manager.

We are all immensely proud of Sarah, she's a real asset to the Castleford Lodge team and is loved by residents and team members alike. Well done! 🥰

Denise and Diane, the heartwarming mother/daughter duo 🥰

Having lived at Archers Court Care Home for nearly a year now, Denise has settled into the home wonderfully and taken advantage of all of the amazing activities it has to offer.

Throughout our Reconnect communities, the aim is to support people living with dementia to reconnect with their past and feel happy in their new home. There's no doubt that Denise feels happy at Archers Court, and this means that her daughter Diane also feels very happy!

"The staff are lovely, they really are lovely... And the food, she always says the food's good" 🍕

Happy International Men's Day! 🕺✨🧑‍🍳

On a day which celebrates the positive value men bring to the world, their loved ones and communities, we thought it only right to shine the spotlight on several fabulous Orchard men:

- First up, we have Thabani over at Three Bridges Nursing Home. Working as a Registered General Nurse, Thabani says that his role is challenging, but rewarding and he loves the environment at the home 💫

- Meanwhile at Ashlea Mews Care Home, Chef Clive has been serving delicious food at the home with a happy, helpful attitude for 24 years! His advice for men considering a career in care is simply: "Go for it! Why not?"

- In our Support Centre, we have the brilliant Estates Director Mark who told us: "This wonderful industry is for men and women to forge a meaningful career in, so if International Men’s Day raises awareness of men working in Care Homes, then great!" 🤩

You are all superheroes!

Colleagues at Ashlea Mews Care Home break barriers with British Sign Language training 👏

Residents who are non-verbal are now able to communicate with colleagues, thanks to training provided by Sign It Hear: a non-profit organisation aiming to support people with hearing impairments in the local community.

Vicki, Debbie and Rachael were among the team members who volunteered to learn British Sign Language, which took 6 weeks to complete. The training allowed them to learn key phrases and words to provide better communication with non-verbal residents, and even offered specific phrases to support resident, James, who had a career as a joiner and likes to talk about his past job role. Since learning BSL, the team have seen a significant reduction in distress levels with James, and are able to help constructive, engaging conversations with him.

When we say our team go above and beyond for our residents, THIS is what we mean 🎉 ⭐ 🙌

Millfield Nursing Home 🤝 meaningful days out!

The team at Millfield are always looking at ways to make everybody's day a little brighter, and this trip to Chesterfield for residents John and John was no exception... 💚

According to both gents, the highlights of the day were the Chesterfield Railway Town Exhibition at the Winding Wheel and lunch at the pub. At the special new exhibition, which marks the 200th anniversary of the modern railway, they learned all about the history of Chesterfield's three railway lines and found it really fascinating 🚂

There was also a cafe stop for a cup of tea - what a perfect day!

Well done to the activities team for planning yet another wonderful day out 👏

78 years old and still running? A true inspiration 🏃‍♀️

Caroline has always been an avid runner (including marathons!), so when she joined Archers Court Care Home this year, the team focused her person-centred care plan to ensure she can still enjoy her hobby with the safety of their dementia-specialist team by her side.

For her first run, Caroline was joined by Alex Greaves, Academy Trainer at Orchard Care Homes. As a runner herself, Alex knows all too well the physical and mental benefits of getting those miles in, and was more than happy to support Caroline on her journey to being active again.

Now part of her daily routine, Caroline also hosts Fitness Fridays for her fellow residents, thanks to a great initiative from Home Manager, Sharon. “With the support of our team, she’s helping other residents keep active and energised throughout the day – it’s so wonderful to see her in her element!”

Wow - where do we begin? If you've ever visited a loved one at Ashlea Lodge, you'll have more than likely met the wonderful Cathy and seen her genuine passion for elderly care ❤️

Known for her kindness, humour, and dancing feet, Cathy brings joy to residents, families, and our colleagues every day. We are truly honoured to have Cathy on our team and even more so as she will be celebrating her 70th birthday with us next year!

Happy 15-year workiversary, Cathy - we couldn't imagine the home without you 🥹🥰
