The family of the late Alan Hackett have asked us to share this notice.

Peacefully on the 13th April 2026 after a short illness, Aged 84 years, Alan. A much loved Husband to Iris. Adored Dad to Gaynor and Step Dad to Geoff. Loving Grandad to Gemma, Ellen, Alex, Lewis, Theo and also a Beloved Great Grandad to Teddie.
Will friends please meet for service at Sunderland Crematorium Tuesday 5th May at 1.30pm.
Family flowers only please, donations in Lieu if so desired to St Benedict's Hospice and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a donations box will be provided at the Crematorium.
Alan will Repose in the private chapel of rest at T & G Direct Funeral Services, 207 Hylton Road, Sunderland SR4 7XA.

Meet the Owner – Trevor Shingler FSBP

I’m Trevor Shingler, founder of T&G Direct Funeral Services Ltd. I started the company in October 2023 alongside my wife, Gayle, after spending 10 years working within both large corporate and family-run funeral companies.

During that time, I began to notice something that didn’t sit right with me — rising costs that didn’t always reflect the level of care families deserved. That’s when I knew it was time to create something different. Our aim has always been simple: to provide a professional, compassionate service at a fair and reasonable price, without ever compromising on quality.

At T&G Direct Funeral Services, we proudly support local businesses by sourcing our coffins, urns, flowers, and vehicles from trusted local suppliers. We believe in keeping things personal, meaningful, and community-focused.

We offer a wide range of funeral services to suit every family’s needs, including:

• Fully personalised services tailored to honour your loved one’s life

Since starting the company, I’ve been honoured to take on the role of Vice President for the Society of Bereavement Practitioners — a position I accepted with great pride. I am also Chair Trustee of Billy’s Lifeline, a su***de bereavement charity that is very close to my heart following the loss of my cousin. The charity does incredible work supporting families through the most difficult times.

Will friends please meet for service at Sunderland Crematorium Tuesday 21st April at 11am. Then onto The Billy Hardy Sports Complex, Castletown SR5 3ES to share memories of Eileen.

When someone you love passes away in hospital, it can feel overwhelming and uncertain. At T&G Direct Funeral Services LTD, we’re here to gently guide you through what happens next.

Once a passing occurs, the hospital staff will care for your loved one with dignity and respect. The Medical Examiner will scrutinise the medical records and will generally contact you within 5–10 days. A doctor will then issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, which is needed to begin the registration process. You will then be able to register the death, usually by appointment at your local register office.

During this time, you can choose a funeral director. We can arrange to bring your loved one into our care once the Medical Examiner has given clearance for them to be released from the hospital. We will also support you with the necessary arrangements and help you make decisions at your own pace.

There is no need to rush. Take the time you need, lean on those around you, and know that support is available every step of the way.
