It’s COMPLETELY normal.
I’ve been practising yoga for 10 years now, and I’ve been a teacher for nearly 8. I’ve taught over 3,000 hours of classes and completed almost 1,500 hours of training…
And I still have self-doubt.
Do I think it magically disappears with more years or more certificates? Not really. What actually happens is you learn to move with it. You learn to recognise it not as a sign that you’re not good enough, but as a sign that you care.
Self doubt shows up when we want to serve our students well. It appears when we’re expanding, learning, creating something new, or holding space for others. It whispers when we’re passionate. It nudges us when we want to grow.
But here’s the part I’ve learned over time:
Self doubt doesn’t mean “stop.”
It means “you’re stepping into something meaningful.”
Every teacher I admire, and every teacher who inspires me, has felt it too. They just didn’t let it decide their path.
So if you’re a new teacher worrying about your sequencing, your voice, your cueing, whether your class “landed,” or whether you’re ready… know this:
You don’t need to be perfect to teach yoga.
You just need to be present.
You just need to keep showing up.
You just need to stay curious, humble, and open.
And if self doubt is along for the ride?
Invite it to sit in the back seat.
You’re still the one driving.
