World Autism Day Today - Did you know that statistics revealed that autism spectrum disorder is 4.3 times more prevalent in boys than it is in girls? This is because girls 'often go undiagnosed because they don't fit autism stereotypes and they mask symptoms better than boys do', according to the Child Mind Institute. There is no better way to celebrate this day by becoming aware of the characteristics of people with this condition and how all of us can do better to increase our own understanding and promote kindness.

Today celebrates the beginning of 'Neurodiversity celebration week'. The tagline is 'Celebrating Different minds'. It was chosen because neurodiversity is more than labels like Dyslexia, Autism or ADHD. It is about thinking about things in a different way than the majority, than the cultural norm. It is about having unique strengths, talents and perspectives that come from thinking differently. Most people are neurotypical, meaning that the brain functions and processes information in the way society expects. However, it is estimated that around 15% of people in the UK are neurodivergent, meaning that the brain functions, learns and processes information differently.
