Did you know acupuncture isn’t just needles?
The Chinese word for acupuncture is 针灸 (Zhēn Jiǔ).
It actually describes two therapies:
针 – needle
灸 – moxibustion
Moxa/moxibustion (mugwort) is a warming therapy used on acupuncture points to strengthen the body, move circulation and restore balance.
In classical Chinese medicine, moxa was often just as important as the needles.
So when you see that gentle warming technique during treatment, you’re experiencing a therapy that’s been used for thousands of years.
Sometimes the body doesn’t need more stimulation…
Sometimes it just needs a little warmth. I'm trained and qualified in (and use) advanced methods of both Chinese and Japanese techniques, each suitable for different ailments.

Cancer treatment can be life-saving but it can also be incredibly hard on the body.
Many people going through chemotherapy, radiotherapy or recovery experience symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, neuropathy, brain fog, poor sleep and emotional overwhelm.
Acupuncture is increasingly used as a supportive therapy alongside conventional cancer care to help manage some of these side effects and support overall wellbeing.
Research shows acupuncture may help with:
• chemotherapy-related nausea
• cancer-related fatigue
• peripheral neuropathy
• sleep and anxiety
• general quality of life during treatment
But beyond the research, something else happens in the treatment room.
Patients often describe feeling their body soften… their nervous system settle… and finding a moment of calm in the middle of a very challenging time.
It’s not about replacing medical treatment.
It’s about supporting the body while it goes through it.
If you or someone you love is going through cancer treatment, always speak with your oncology team before starting supportive therapies.
Gentle support when the body needs it most.

I used to think yoga just wasn’t for people like me.
In my head it was for the super bendy, trendy people who already loved yoga… not someone who just wanted to feel a bit less tight, tired and stressed by mid-week.
But Wednesday night yoga has quietly become one of the best things I do for myself all week.
I try to do both classes, starting with some gentle Hatha Yoga moving, stretching, breathing, getting out of our heads and back into our bodies.
Then settling into Restorative Yoga, my favourite. Blankets, stillness, long slow breaths… the kind of deep relaxation that’s actually quite rare in normal life.
By the time I get home my whole system feels different.
And the sleep… honestly the best sleep of my week. Deep, proper sleep.
I wake up on Thursday morning feeling like I’ve had two days off. My body feels reset, my mind is calmer, and suddenly the last few working days of the week feel a lot more manageable.
If you’ve ever thought “yoga isn’t really my thing” I completely get it. I thought the same.
But with a brilliant teacher and a really welcoming cosy class, it turns out yoga might be exactly what my body needed all along.
Wednesday nights are now my reset button. If you fancy trying it, come join me! Here at The Retreat. # # #

If you’ve suddenly become reactive to things your body used to tolerate easily, perimenopause and histamine could be part of the picture. This is something I’m seeing more and more in clinic — and acupuncture can often calm reactions surprisingly quickly.

Calm the Mind, Restore balance to the Body
Sometimes the best way forward is to pause. A gentle auricular acupuncture session can ease tension, quiet the mental chatter, and invite your body back into balance. Tiny, precise points on the ear can unlock energy flow, helping you feel lighter, calmer, and more aligned, inside and out.
Whether it’s stress, lack of sleep, or simply a sense of overwhelm, acupuncture supports your whole being, encouraging harmony in both mind and body.
Take a moment for yourself. Let the needles guide you into stillness. Your body knows the way, sometimes it just needs a little reminder.

More women are discovering qigong as part of their wellbeing routine, especially during the perimenopause and menopause years.
While strength training and exercise remain important, practices that calm the nervous system and restore energy can make a real difference to how we feel, emotionally and mentally.
Qigong combines gentle movement, breath and awareness to support balance in both body and mind.
Sometimes slowing down is exactly what helps us feel stronger. #

There has been a beautiful rise in interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine lately, from herbal remedies and seasonal eating to acupressure points and ancient wellness practices, lots of recipes for women's tea blends too .
It’s wonderful to see this deep wisdom finding its way back into everyday life.
But Chinese Medicine has always been personalised medicine.
The herbs, foods, points and practices that support one person may not be right for another.
A recipe, remedy or acupoint shared online can be helpful inspiration, but without understanding your unique constitution and pattern of imbalance, it may not bring the results you’re hoping for, and sometimes it can even work against your body.
In the clinic, we look at the whole picture: your energy, symptoms, constitution, lifestyle and the season you’re moving through.
This is where Chinese Medicine becomes truly powerful, when it is tailored to you.
If you're curious about herbs, acupuncture, teas or dietary therapy, the best place to begin is with a proper consultation with a qualified practitioner.
Ancient medicine works best when it’s guided, personalised and respected.
