And with that in mind, Sheila would like to encourage you to take the opportunity to do something unexpected to make someone else’s day.

She said: “It’s a win-win situation.

“That’s because when you do something nice for another person, it makes you feel good as well, which helps to create good mental health for everyone who is involved.”

Today’s post certainly needs a drum roll!

That’s because we are incredibly excited to be revealing the title of Sheila’s next book!
So, the aforementioned drum roll first please….
Thank you!
Those attending Sheila’s 10th anniversary Mental Health Show at the Lichfield Garrick in October last year were the first to know that she planned to publish a second book, a collection of poetry, in early 2026.
Now Sheila has finalised the collection of her poems that will be appearing in the book, we are delighted to reveal that the title will be……
“Behind Closed Doors.”
And here’s a little sneak preview of some of the imagery that is currently under consideration for the cover pages.
But that’s all we can unveil for now!
Sheila expects to release the book soon, so keep a very close eye on this space for more updates.

“Brilliant podcast, Sheila, Jono is a star, and so are your size 9s!”

And “Very good one this one, I love how much space you gave Jono to explore his thoughts and experiences, including about a long-term workplace dispute.”

This is just some of the fantastic feedback Sheila’s new podcast with “Jono”, aka Jonathan Oates, of Jono's Tourism, a well-known face in Lichfield and surrounding villages, has been receiving since it went live on her YouTube channel last week.

Have you watched or listened to it yet?
If so, let us know your thoughts too in the comments below.

You can find Jono and Sheila’s podcast, where they also discuss the connection between our physical and mental health, @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkC7xa7igHA, where you can also find lots of other videos as part of her popular Counsellor Convos series.

New podcast alert – but can you guess who Sheila’s latest guest is?

Here’s a couple of clues….

1. He’s a historical legend.
2. He’s based in Lichfield.

It’s “Jono”, aka Jonathan Oates, who is a well-known face in Lichfield and its surrounding villages, and his conversation with Sheila sees them discuss the connection between our physical and mental health.

Sheila said: “Jono was very open and honest in talking about his mental health and how his physical health had impacted his mental health. I think many listeners will relate to a lot of what he talks about and find it helpful.
“And, of course, a chat with Jono would not be complete if we didn’t talk about his passion for tourism and the importance of having purpose and passion.”

You can find Jono and Sheila’s podcast in her Counsellor Convos series, which you can find over on her YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkC7xa7igHA

Never give up!

That’s the message behind today’s serious post from Sheila.
And it comes with a trigger warning as it references suicidal ideation.

We all know that the NHS is an overstretched service, but Sheila wanted to share a positive encounter she had recently.
Confidentiality is, of course, paramount when counselling private clients, but Sheila also has a duty of care if a person is not safe to alert other agencies to help protect them.
And that’s exactly what she had to do recently, when a client was at serious risk of harm and, in collaboration with them, spoke to their GP surgery, and was met with a positive response.

Sheila said: “I know other people have different experiences with the NHS, but I think it’s important we have positive stories as well. In my recent experience, the client’s GP practice wanted to work collaboratively to do all they could to protect the individual’s safety, so it was a very positive experience.
“Most of the time, people are trying to do their best, especially at a moment when I know that there’s a high demand for their services.
“There needs to be a collaboration of everyone working together, including counsellors, supervisors, GPs, and other agencies, when someone is at real risk of harm and can’t keep themselves safe. We all have a duty of care to make them our priority.”

If you are feeling suicidal, there is help out there, including your GP surgery and counsellors you can talk to.
Sheila also has many free mental health resources on her YouTube Channel, including a discussion with a Samaritan, so you know what to expect before you call, and the Samaritans can also be contacted on 116 123.

What’s in a hug?

Well, as it turns out, quite a lot!

A hug is actually a stress-buster, as it triggers a coordinated biological response that supports our regulation, resilience, and health.
And, while short hugs help achieve this, longer, consensual hugs produce much stronger and more beneficial physiological effects.

However, this advice comes with a warning from Sheila: Proceed with caution!
She joked: “If you hug a co-worker, you don’t know how they will react – and they could get the wrong impression, if you catch my drift!
“So it’s better to hug someone that you know really well.”

To support today’s post, we’re sharing a reel that Sheila shared on her main page earlier this week, as she wanted all her social media followers to see and hopefully benefit from it: https://www.facebook.com/reel/4279334998970538

What a year 2025 has been for Sheila!

She has been busy delivering mental well-being workshops, including for the likes of JCB and Balfour Beatty VINCI, celebrating her 10th anniversary of performing at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre, and the release of her first book, The Power of Knowing You, celebrating her milestone 50th birthday, and continuing to see clients in her private clinic.

Sheila has also been working on her second book, a compilation of her poetry, which she is excited to release in early 2026.

She said: “As 2025 draws to a close, I want to thank everyone who’s been part of my journey this year. It’s been a truly fabulous 12 months professionally and personally.”

Sheila added: “I would like to encourage you to celebrate all of your achievements in 2025, as it’s important to live in the moment and cherish all your successes before moving on to the next project and making plans for the new year ahead.
“I hope 2026 brings you fun, laughter, health, happiness, and plenty of new moments to treasure.”
