One of our sources of funding is generated from eBay selling. We are a registered charity with eBay.co.uk and have had over 20 items sold by eBay sellers, from which we have received £576.94 so far this year.

If you're selling for a charitable donation, there are no fees to be paid and there is a small 'buyer protection' fee deducted from the price paid by the buyer.

A great way to clear our your unwanted items and raise money for Derbyshire Blood Bikes.

Tomorrow you’ll find us at the Derby Arena Event Village for the mighty Derby 10 Mile Race, from 8am until closure after the finish of the event.

We have 12 lovely runners who are raising funds for Derbyshire Blood Bikes, from Derby, Nottingham and even Coventry - so we say thank you and hope you have a safe and enjoyable (?) race!

Come and say hello before or after you’ve cheered on the runners in the Aldi UK sponsored event, who will be led away by two Derbyshire Blood Bikes on the road section of the event.

Looking forward to a better weather day too!

Spare a thought for our blood bikers today! Thankfully in cars today as the Operations Manager had bikes put away in the garage on safety grounds - high winds as well as heavy rain, standing water and floods - because of Storm Claudia!

Not a nice day to do any of your ‘favourite things’ but if hasn’t put off Graham, Mike, Derek, Sarah, Larry, Paul or Ian! Already smashed through 32 jobs today with Joanne on control.

Well done and thank you!

At the end of another busy week for our volunteers, one more urgent transfer of samples from Burton to Derby Hospital, for the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

While our volunteers enjoy being out on the road, riding or driving one of our fleet of 12 motorcycles and 6 cars, once each month a group come together for a ‘cleaning day’, when most of the fleet get a thorough going over.

But more than that, it’s an opportunity for some of our new volunteers to meet, chat and share a cuppa with other volunteers, and it was great to see a handful of new people getting stuck in!

It all helps to build a great team and keep the fleet in good shape!

On Monday, several of our team will be back at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS FT & Royal Primary Care raising awareness of our free service to the NHS across Derbyshire.

They will also be able to talk to anyone interested in volunteering for Derbyshire Blood Bikes as a controller, rider or driver.

This is particularly important as we are trying to increase of team numbers in that part of our county to put out a full time team from Chesterfield Hospital to make full use of the bike and car we have available there. Why?

We currently only provide a service to the Pathology and Blood Bank. Bringing urgent samples into CRH from the northern hospitals (Whitworth, Cavendish, Clay Cross), taking samples from CRH to Sheffield Laboratories or collecting ad hoc blood products from NHSBT at Barnsley. We know we can do so much more, because the hospital has told us so.

So if you think you could help, particularly if you
- have an advanced motorcycling award (IAM or RoSPA)
- have a good riding or driving record (points or claims)
- can volunteer at least one day per month
- aged between 30 and 69

Today has been a day for ‘Milk’ news.

Earlier today we helped out The Hearts Milk Bank with the transfer of frozen milk from their hub in Hertfordshire to the north east hub, working with Serv Herts & Beds and Northumbria Blood Bikes.

Recently we began helping the supply of milk to the neonatal units at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Today we learned that some of that milk is being used to feed a premature new born. That’s what it’s all about! Saving new lives!
