Time for Wellness

What is it about giving ourselves time to rest and heal? Why don’t we do it until we are forced to?

Just a little care every day will go a long way and we should be making it a priority. If we neglect our physical and mental health we will have no choice but to address it. Acupuncture can be used to treat specific conditions but also for general wellness & relaxation. It addresses both physical and emotional health. We need to start valuing our health more and prioritising our own needs.

How often should you get Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is in it for the long game. Each treatment builds on another. It’s very cumulative!

In the beginning, you’ll likely need to come in more frequently. Too long of a gap between sessions can hinder the progress! We don’t want to keep chasing the issue AFTER it comes up, we want to build your resources to prevent it from re-occurring.

Each person’s health is unique however, in general, you’ll likely see a shift in your health after just 3-4 treatments.
For acute pain, 5-6 treatments.
For chronic, 8-10 treatments.
For menstrual related, 3 cycles.

Monthly is a good sweet spot to continue tune ups to work on anything that comes up and avoid future problems.

Acupuncture can be a helpful complementary therapy for managing various pregnancy symptoms. Here are some ways it can assist:

Morning Sickness: Acupuncture is known to reduce nausea and vomiting, which are common during the first trimester. By targeting specific points, it can help balance the body’s energy and alleviate these symptoms.

Pain Relief: Many pregnant women experience back, pelvic, and joint pain due to the physical changes in their bodies. Acupuncture can help relieve these discomforts by promoting better blood flow and releasing endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.

Stress and Anxiety: Pregnancy can be a stressful time, and acupuncture can help reduce stress and anxiety levels. It works by stimulating the nervous system and promoting relaxation, which can improve overall well-being.
Insomnia: Difficulty sleeping is another common issue during pregnancy. Acupuncture can help improve sleep quality by addressing underlying issues such as anxiety and physical discomfort.

Digestive Issues: Acupuncture can also help with digestive problems like constipation and heartburn by regulating the digestive system and improving its function.

Labor Preparation: In the later stages of pregnancy, acupuncture can be used to prepare the body for labor. It can help soften the cervix and promote uterine contractions, potentially making labor easier and less painful.

Overall, acupuncture offers a natural and holistic approach to managing pregnancy symptoms, making it a popular choice for many expectant mothers. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new treatment.

Have you tried acupuncture before, or are you considering it for your pregnancy?

When to start acupuncture when you’re pregnant?

Anytime!

Many don’t come in until the last few weeks of pregnancy for labour support but initiating the process before you get to that point is very helpful for mitigating and supporting any issues.

Acupuncture is great at all stages of pregnancy, as well as pre-conception and postpartum.

Are you struggling with your mental health and want a natural solution? Try Acupuncture!

Acupuncture has been studied as a complementary therapy for conditions such as depression and anxiety. Research suggests that acupuncture may help regulate brain areas involved in mood regulation, help to increase serotonin levels (the happy hormone) which acts as a natural anti-depressant/mood enhancer and help regulate the nervous system which reduces stress hormones, thereby improving mood, sleep, digestion and more.

In addition by allowing yourself “you time” and listening to your body and honouring self-care you are always going to better your physical, mental and spiritual health.

Reiki is an ancient technique used for stress reduction and relaxation and that benefits both physical and mental health. It is a gentle, non-invasive therapy which is the gentle placing of the practitioners hands on or near the body. It is great at helping reducing stress and anxiety, ease pain, and even help to balance your immune system. I use Reiki when the acupuncture needles are in the body as it helps you relax during your treatment.

In Chinese Medicine, emotions and physical health are connected. It recognizes that our mental and emotional well-being significantly impacts our physical health, and vice versa.

Chinese Medicine associates specific emotions with particular organs in the body:
- Anger is linked to the liver.
- Fear corresponds to the kidneys.
- Joy is associated with the heart.
- Sadness and grief are related to the lungs.
- Worry affects the spleen.

When emotions are out of balance, they can impact the corresponding organs.

💧Crying can help release pent-up emotions, allowing the body to find equilibrium.

💧Crying provides an outlet for emotional expression, helping to release stagnant energy and restore balance.

💧Tears contain stress hormones and other substances.
When we cry, we release these compounds, which can have a calming effect on the body.

💧Tears also help lubricate the eyes and maintain eye health.

Remember, it’s normal to experience a range of emotions, and crying is a natural way to process and release them. In Chinese Medicine, maintaining emotional balance contributes to overall well-being.

The seasons have a direct effect on our health. In Chinese Medicine it is encouraged that as the seasons change, we should adapt accordingly to promote good health. By living in harmony with the environment, we can prevent illness and imbalance.
Spring is the season for rebirth, renewal and re-growth. It is when we move from the darkness of winter (the yin part of the year) into the light (towards the yang part). Here are some top tips to help you spring forward to better wellbeing.

1. LOOK AFTER YOUR LIVER
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine spring is associated with the liver. TCM teaches us that when the liver is running smoothly, emotional Qi will flow with ease throughout the body.

Things to Help Your Liver:
• Releasing negative emotions from this organ helps us to feel reinvigorated and ready for new beginnings.
• The liver opens into the eyes. Remember to take breaks when looking at a computer monitor.
• The liver controls the tendons, so start stretching every day. Stretching is good as it will open the pathways of the liver and gallbladder, avoiding stagnation and the many health problems that can arise.

2. CLEANSE THE BODY
Now is the time to renew and regenerate your body from the inside out. Just as we spring clean our homes, we also need to spring clean our body, especially our digestive system. Put simply, it is time to focus on digestion and detoxification.

It is a great time to start getting regular massages. As massage stimulates the circulatory system, it supports the body’s natural detoxifying functions.

3. SPRING CLEAN
It is an important time for cleaning and improving harmony, not only on the inside but also in our surroundings. Open the windows to the fresh spring air and start cleaning the home.

4. COME OUT OF HIBERNATION
Like all things in nature, we often find ourselves living sedentary lifestyles, retreating into our warm homes during the cold winter months. Spring encourages us to fling open the windows and get outside to replenish Qi with good quality air.
