Together we can eliminate Cervical Cancer

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and the NHS in the South West is sharing how you can help us eliminate cervical cancer by 2040.

* Are you a woman or someone with a cervix aged 25 to 64?
* Are you a parent of a secondary school student?
* Have you left school, but haven’t received your HPV vaccination?
* Don’t fit into any of these categories, so how can I help?

All of the questions above can be answered by clicking the link in this post.

Young People's Mental Health Support

With long waiting lists affecting mental health support, meeting the needs of young patients can be challenging, especially when we know that issues can escalate over time. YoungMinds research shows 58% of young people felt their mental health got worse while waiting for support.

If you are on a referral waiting list that doesn't mean there is no help available .......

KOOTH offers a solution: free, confidential online mental health support with no waiting lists or referral needed. This clinically approved, BACP-accredited service for young people is FREE of any charges as they are commissioned by Integrated Care Boards across the area.

It's a fantastic support service that is really worth signing up for.

Are you aware that there is a home health testing service?........

TakeATestUK offers you the peace of mind that comes from regular health testing in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Our postal testing service is discreet, comprehensive and convenient.

They offer tests for a range of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Blood Borne Viruses (BBVs). They work with the NHS and UK Health Security Agency, and they're managed by the national charity Saving Lives.

When you use TakeATestUK, you can have total confidence in their clinical and scientific expertise. It's a gold-standard service designed by specialists, and they have selected the best organisations to work with in order to offer their tests.

Whether you regularly test yourself and simply enjoy the convenience of not having to attend a clinic, or have never tested before and are a little nervous, the postal kits are sent direct to the address you supply in plain, unidentifiable packaging.

Simply take your own samples – each STI or BBV may require a different sample – and send them off to the state-of-the-art laboratory. You will then receive your result by text – or, if there’s anything to discuss further, you’ll be contacted over the telephone by one of of their fully-trained health advisors.

Their kits come complete with easy to understand instructions, and every step – from the contents of the text messages you receive to the care they take with your data – is totally confidential. There really is no better mix of privacy and clinical excellence available from any other postal kit provider.

P H A R M A C Y F I R S T

As the busy festive season draws near it feels a good time to remind you about the excellent services provided by our local Pharmacies that mean you don't need a Surgery appointment.

The Pharmacy First service allows community pharmacies to provide treatment for seven common conditions directly. These conditions include:

- Sinusitis (12 years and over)
- Sore Throat (5 years and over)
- Earache (1 to 17 years)
- Infected Insect Bite (1 year and over)
- Impetigo (1 year and over)
- Shingles (18 years and over)
- Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) in women (16-64)

This quick access to healthcare could be really useful during this exceptionally hectic time of year.

Telephone System Update

We are moving to a different telephone software from the 17th December at 3pm.

This should not affect patients. However, please bear with our team as they get used to this new phone software.

Many thanks in anticipation of your support during this time.
