What a great opportunity to try out cold water swimming safely with Chill Dorset and Parkinson's UK. As a weekly sea dipper and neuro physiotherapist I can fully recommend giving this a go with experienced trainers.

We’re working with Parkinson's UK to offer a dedicated cold-water course for people living with Parkinson’s. The aim is to support people to explore the benefits of cold water exposure and gentle exercise.

The course will follow the same format as our usual cold water courses (see our Pinned Post for details of upcoming dates). It will start this autumn, with the details to be confirmed.

To register your interest or find out more, please contact Parkinson’s UK:

Please SHARE this post with anyone you know who may benefit from this cold-water course.

Today is International Myotonic Dystrophy Awareness Day. Myotonic Dystrophy is a rare muscle condition that causes weakness, droopy eyes & fatigue but also can affect the bowels, heart & other systems.
I am lucky enough to work with a lovely, motivated lady with MD during a course of weekly aqua-therapy sessions. This is fully funded by Hydromuscles, an amazing & generous charity which funds aqua-therapy for people with rare neuromuscular conditions.

Exercise in the water allows people to move in ways that are difficult or impossible on dryland; work on walking and balance safely; swim & exercise with speed to improve fitness and maximise muscle strength. And it’s fun too!
Aqua-therapy & exercise for this lady helps her to continue working & looking after her dog.

Looking forward to speaking about maximising mobility and managing freezing at the Purbeck Parkinson’s Group - ‘Purbeck Parky’s’ meeting tomorrow.
It can be common in Parkinson’s to have reduced walking speed, stride length and arm swing and people can experience shuffling steps and freezing (when it is difficult to take the next step). I will be speaking about what causes this, strategies to manage it and exercises which can help reduce the issue. The brain pathways are changeable and exercise and movement is the key.

💙 Our next Parkinson’s Café - everyone welcome - please feel free to share.
