Today our U11s returned to Ysgol Glan Y Mรดr for another round of 9-a-side fixtures against familiar opponents, Cwm Wanderers and Mumbles, as they continue their preparations for next season. The girls once again showed fantastic progress, confidence, and teamwork across both games.
Galaxy 0 โ 1 Mumbles
A real closely contested game saw Mumbles take an early lead, capitalising on a brief lapse in concentration in the opening moments. Despite the early setback, Galaxy responded brilliantly and grew into the game with confidence and composure.
From that point on, the girls controlled large spells of possession, moving the ball around well and showing great awareness to find space. Their passing was sharp, and they worked tirelessly to create opportunities, carving out several promising chances in front of goal.
Although the equaliser just wouldnโt come, the attacking intent and build-up play were very encouraging. Defensively, the team remained strong and organised, dealing well with any pressure. Mya was once again reliable in goal, making some excellent saves.
A strong performance overall, with plenty of positives to take despite the narrow defeat.
Galaxy 2 โ 2 Cwm Wanderers
Galaxy carried their momentum into the second game, starting much sharper and with real intent. This time, their positive approach was rewarded early on, with Sofia showing great strength to hold off her defender, turn brilliantly, and fire a composed finish into the net. The move was well supported by some excellent wing play from Emily.
Cwm responded well and managed to get themselves back into the game, but Galaxy continued to play with confidence and belief, stretching the pitch well and looking particularly dangerous down the wings through Abi and Emily.
Galaxy regained the lead to make it 2โ1 after a fantastic attacking move, with Abi driving forward down the left and delivering a superb cross into the box for Emily to finish calmly.
The girls worked tirelessly to protect their lead and looked in control for large parts, but Cwm managed to find a late equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game, in what was an exciting and hard-fought contest.
Once again, the whole team were outstanding. The girls are continuing to grow in confidence every week, adapting really well to the 9-a-side format. Their teamwork, communication, and willingness to play positive football is fantastic to see, and they are constantly looking to improve and support one another on the pitch.
There is a real sense of belief building within the squad, and performances like these show just how far theyโve come, and how much more potential they have to grow.
