Tingling or numbness in the wrist and fingers is often labelled as carpal tunnel, but thatโ€™s not always the case. The nerves that supply your arm start in the neck, so irritation or compression there can create symptoms that feel identical.

True carpal tunnel affects the median nerve at the wrist. Neck referral patterns, on the other hand, stem from nerve roots higher up in the spine. Both can cause similar sensations tingling, weakness, or a dull ache in the hand and forearm.
