Lowri had a lovely time meeting some of the pre-schoolers at Abigail's Day Nursery. They met Ted and learnt what to do in an emergency.

Our early years class is designed for children aged 3-6 to learn the first steps in first aid, it’s always incredibly rewarding to teach!

🎇Bonfire Night is almost here!🎇

It’s an exciting time for little ones, but Bonfire Night can be risky. Over 550 children under 16 end up in A&E around 5th November every year.

✨Sparklers & Fireworks Safety ✨
• No sparklers for children under 5
• Wear gloves and hold sparklers at arm’s length
• One sparkler at a time
• Never hold a baby or toddler while using a sparkler
• Cool used sparklers in water before disposal
• Keep bonfires away from buildings, fences, trees and toys
• Have water or a hose ready
• Keep children and pets a safe distance from flames

Quick Burn First Aid
1. Remove the person from danger
2. Remove jewellery and loose clothing (don’t pull off anything stuck)
3. Cool the burn under running cool water for 20 minutes
4. Cover loosely with cling film or a clean, dry dressing
5. Keep them warm
6. Call 999 for serious burns (face, hands, feet, ge****ls, large or deep burns); otherwise contact 111.

We’d love to welcome you to our relaxed and friendly 2-hour Baby & Child First Aid class.

Perfect for expectant and new parents, grandparents, and carers, our sessions are designed to give you the confidence to help your little one in an emergency. Babies under one are always welcome.

During the class, we’ll cover:
• CPR and choking
• Burns, bleeding, and fractures
• Febrile convulsions and head injuries
• Sepsis, meningitis, and more

£30 per person, including a handy class booklet to take home.

👻 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 👻

At Mini First Aid, we love Halloween as much as you do, but some Halloween treats like 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐬, 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧, 𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬 are all choking risks and not recommended for toddlers and small children.

Hard lollipops and boiled sweets are a popular trick or treat gift but they can easily become detached from their stick and lodge in a child’s throat.

Nuts like peanuts/monkey nuts which are popular at Halloween are hard for small children to bite into and chew, and Popcorn with its sharp edges and kernel flakes can also be a choking hazard.

Marshmallows are sticky and hard for small children to safely chew. They can stick in a child’s windpipe and restrict their airway.

There is the added risk of your child eating these while running around, having fun trick or treating in the dark, not concentrating on chewing or eating, and you not noticing that they might be choking.

Stay safe this Halloween and keep sweet treats like this away from your small children and toddlers.

💚 Our story so far

Driving home from a little family break, we realised it’s been over three years since we joined Mini First Aid, and what a journey it’s been!

We’re Lowri & Ryan, parents to two busy little ones (4 & 1) and the team behind Mini First Aid Swansea, Bridgend, The Vale & Caerphilly. We’re both local GPs, and Ryan also lectures at Cardiff Medical School.

You might notice our new name! We were previously Mini First Aid Swansea, The Vale & Valleys. We have updated to make it clearer where we cover (and yes, it’s quite a stretch of South Wales 💚).

Over the last few years, we’ve had our fair share of real-life first aid moments, from cuts and head bumps to burns, broken bones and even cardiac arrests. Each one has reminded us that emergencies can happen when you least expect them, and how important it is to stay calm and act quickly.

Our aim is to help families, schools and workplaces feel calm, confident and prepared when it matters most, through relaxed, hands-on first aid sessions that apply to real-life situations.

We have met incredible people since starting up. Thank you so much to everyone for being part of our journey so far, we are looking forward to the next chapter.
