Recently, one of our referring practices contacted us to discuss a particularly challenging canine patient of theirs.
Luna is a very worried elderly little dog, whose heart is affected by mitral valve disease (a common canine cardiac disease), and she was in need of a comprehensive dental assessment and treatment. Due to her age, and her heart disease, our colleagues at Clapham Vets sought the combined advice of our Cardiology and Anaesthesia department to try and manage her specific needs as best as possible. Anaesthetising geriatric patients who suffer from a concurrent heart disease is no small feat, and a tailored plan was required to ensure the best possible outcome for Luna.
After careful consideration, and a review of her specific history, our anaesthesia team was able to provide detailed advice for Luna's primary care vets who remained in charge of her dental care.
We were very happy to hear that following our advice, Luna did extremely well and recovered uneventfully from her dental treatment.
We understand that it is not always possible or appropriate to refer every single case to us, and we always happily receive advice enquiries from Primary Care partners so that together we achieve what matters most to us all, a Better World for Pets.
