This is a rare opportunity to work part time hours, in a Residential Care Home providing high standards of food preparation to the elderly residents who live here. Based in Purton, you will need your own transport due to the location and limited public transport access. As a Part Time Kitchen Assistant, you will work with the Head Cook and wider team to prepare, serve and manage mealtime preparations. This is a busy role and needs someone who has had previous kitchen/catering experience, someone who has received formal training in food hygiene, food preparation and food safety.

You will be responsible for the preparing of trays (individual meals for the residents), preparing and serving meals and assisting clients who need assistance with eating, in a dignified manner. Involved in the clearing away, washing of cutlery and crockery and the use of the dishwasher, assisting with beverages. You will ensure that the small kitchen is clean and tidy and the floor washed daily, assisting the cook in the main kitchen to prepare food as necessary.

As a Part Time Kitchen Assistant you will prepare and distribute meals to residents and day care clients, helping to collate resident’s choice of menu for the following day and discuss personal choices in line with requirements. To conduct activities according to the food and hygiene regulations and to participate in the maintenance of kitchen equipment, cleaning rotas and moping of floors.

Reporting to the Housekeeper, you will be responsible for all laundry within the home, managing the laundry according to the homes laundry policies and procedures, working to strict health and safety policies. You will be responsible for ensuring adequate stocks of detergent and fabric conditioner, responsible for daily maintenance and the daily de-fluffing of the dryers, reporting any defects to the House Keeper and where necessary.

As a Part Time Laundry Assistant you be responsible for the allocation of clothing to appropriate laundry shelves and distribution into residents rooms in a dignified manner, maintaining a sociable and happy nature when around residents at all times. To promote staff harmony and a good working atmosphere, providing a safe and comfortable environment for both staff and residents is key to this role as the facility is home to some 30+ elderly residents, therefore the role is busy and varied and calls for a calm and caring individual.

S has some sensory processing difficulties and can react strongly to touch, both in positive and negative ways, as well as being sensitive to strongly smelling toiletries. When stressed or anxious, S may challenge us, and we’ll make sure you are trained to a high standard to manage on those occasions should they occur.

S loves spending time doing the things she enjoys and that are important to her; she adores her cuddly toys, watching Netflix, swimming, horse riding or simply soaking in the bath. Unfortunately, being outside can be a challenge for S when things are really busy and there are lots of people around, so we need your skill and expertise to help open up her world when she moves into her new home.

As part of our team you'll help S overcome her barriers to help her lead a fulfilling and meaningful life and reach her true potential.
