It’s Beth here, I’m one of the Peer Support Workers and have been working on this page. We thought it might be nice to give a little update on our experience of being a Peer Support Worker. Our role is new and we were the first Peer Support Workers in our team and I’ve learnt a lot on this journey. I’ve been able to do a course with the University of Exeter to help me use my personal experience to support others and I have met lovely and amazing people. I’ve kept busy and got to use some of my skills to do different activities with clients. We've done crochet, rock painting, mandalas, digital art and coding. It’s been great to have such a variety of opportunities in my role and to also take what I’ve experienced and turn it into a positive move forward.
Working has really helped my mental health, the regular contact with my awesome colleagues, having a place to go and responsibilities has really given me a confidence boost and a focus. I have achieved more than I thought I could, just being in a room of people was too much and now I’m co running Peer Support Groups.
