Established in the 1920's we are proud that Hillier Funeral Service is one of the oldest family businesses in the area. Mark Hillier and his daughter, together with experienced staff, is dedicated to carrying out a personalised service to meet the individual wishes of each family. Every detail is considered with care when planning the funeral for your loved one. Funeral arrangements may be discussed at either of our premises or we are always happy to visit your home. We believe each funeral is unique and should be a fitting tribute to the life of your loved one. We are able to arrange funerals for all different religions, non religious ceremonies, press announcements, printing, catering, floral tributes, recording and forwarding donations, prepayment funerals and any other personal concerns or requirements you may have. We are able to provide horse drawn hearses, motorcycle hearses or a lorry to carry the coffin if required.

“Lovely jubbly!”

In true Only Fools and Horses fashion, we didn’t just arrange the famous three-wheeler as the hearse for this family’s loved one, Batman and Robin also made a surprise appearance (thanks to our fantastic colleagues Jerry and Nick… we’ll let you guess who was who!).

The family shared that their loved one had a brilliant sense of humour and would have wanted everyone to smile and have a laugh, and that’s exactly what we made sure happened. A farewell full of character, laughter, and fond memories.

What a sight to behold as the RAF performed a flyover in honour of one of their own ✈️

Everyone was brought to a standstill before the service to witness this magnificent and deeply moving tribute to a remarkable man.

“To be an artist is to believe in life.”

It was an honour to conduct the funeral service for a Swindon legend, Ken White, a local artist whose talent reached far beyond our community and was admired worldwide and even in the skies with his iconic Scarlet Lady for Virgin Atlantic. The art he created will live on, continuing to inspire for generations to come. ✈️☁️

Born and bred in Swindon, Ken’s roots in the town ran deep. After studying at Swindon Art College, he began to leave his creative imprint during the 1970s, bringing colour and life to the town through striking murals that celebrated everyday Swindon, its characters, its streets, and its unmistakable spirit.

It felt only fitting that Ken was laid to rest with some of the tools of his craft, a palette and mahlstick, also placed prominently on top of his coffin as we carried him into his final farewell. 🎨

Our sincere thanks to Ken’s family for trusting us to provide such a meaningful and beautiful send-off for their loved one. 💚

Today is often referred to as “Blue Monday” a time when many people find their mood feeling a little heavier than usual.

If you are one of our families, past or present, please know that you are not alone. We are here for you and with you. After the emotional build-up of December, this time of year can feel especially challenging.

If you’re able to, try to prioritise small moments of care for yourself: a brisk walk, keeping to simple daily routines, or even stepping out to enjoy your favourite hot or cold drink. These gentle moments can make a real difference.

We like to call it "Brew Monday", a time to sit, pause and chat with a cuppa!

Please remember, support is always available.

It was an absolute honour to see our service room at Kingshill House filled with so much love and affection during this family’s service.

The way they transformed the space into a meaningful tribute to their loved one was beautiful, and the addition of live music made it a lasting and memorable celebration of life.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of such a special final farewell.

Talk about going in style!

A Motorbike leather jacket, a pirate flag draped over the coffin, and Harley Davidson-themed floral tributes. What a personal final journey for this family's loved one as he made his way to his celebration of life.

It’s the little touches that make us who we are, and being able to include them in a final farewell makes it all the more special and sentimental for the families we support.
