Celebrating Kindness: Meet Greg, Our Aspire Volunteer

Today is World Kindness Day, and we want to celebrate someone who truly shows what kindness means, Greg, one of our amazing Aspire Volunteers.

Greg is always ready to help and support others. Every time he comes into the kitchen, he brings a smile that brightens everyone’s day. From helping with daily tasks to bringing in sweet treats to share, Greg is always thoughtful and showing kindness.

He volunteers at both St George’s Café and the Forget Me Not Café at Humphrey Booth Resource Centre. His hard work and friendly attitude make a real difference, creating a welcoming and positive environment for staff, the people we support and the general public visiting our cafes.

Today, we commemorated Armistice Day with a full day of activities, joined by our Aspire 2 Age Better group, the people we support at Poppy Dementia Support, and members of our local community.

The afternoon was filled with reminiscing, singing, dancing, and enjoying a delicious homemade lunch from our Forget Me Not Café. We danced to wartime tunes as well as hits from across the decades, thank you to Ged the DJ for the music.

A special thank you to everyone who joined us, it was a pleasure to spend the day with you, marking such an important occasion together.

This Week’s Round Up. 🌟

The people we support had an amazing time at Poppy’s Bake Off. Everyone enjoyed the team challenge and the cakes were delicious. Big thanks to the staff team for making it happen. Poppy also had a lovely afternoon at Singing for the Brain at the University of Salford Dementia Hub, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society. Lots of smiles and singing!

At Brierley Community Hub, we learned about how modern computers can help us in everyday life, great fun and really interesting! Brierley also enjoyed music with Lewis and looked forward to his Christmas shows. For Remembrance Sunday, Brierley Hub has created a beautiful poppy display, a space to reflect and remember all our heroes, both human and animal.

Michael had a nice trip to Costa for coffee and chocolate cake, and Claire enjoyed a rainy night at Blackpool Illuminations with fish & chips and candy floss.🎡

St George’s Community Hub had a fantastic visit from the Green Watch team, who shared important safety tips for Bonfire Night and taught the people we support how to stay safe. 🚒

Everyone loved getting a closer look inside the fire engine and seeing the equipment they use to keep our community safe!

Happy Halloween from Aspire! 👻

We’ve had such a spooktacular day celebrating. From pumpkin carving at Brierley Community Hub and decorating for a spooky party at Granville Respite, to a scary photo shoot at Alexandra Community Hub, Poppy Dementia Support going pumpkin picking, and a Halloween fancy dress party at Waterside. It’s been a day full of fun.

And the celebrations aren’t over yet… St George’s are hosting their Halloween party tonight, and we can’t wait to see all the photos and everyone’s amazing costumes!
