We all think Pilates is new and trendy BUT ……….Joseph Pilates was born in 1883, he was a sickly child suffering from rickets, asthma & rheumatic fever. Early 20th century Joseph Pilates invented Pilates originally known as Contrology - exercises with precise control muscular movement to balance body and mind. In 1912 he travelled to England, WW1 broke out. During his time in a camp he devised apparatuses for rehabilitation of injured prisoners.The inspiration for reformers came from iron beds and coiled mattress springs. In 1926 he and his wife Clara opened their first Pilates studio in New York and that’s where it began. Pilates was very popular with women dancers and gymnasts. In recent times more and more people celebrities are practising all forms of Pilates including more men like David Beckham and Ed Sheeran. I’ve been teaching since 2004, I now have my own studio with 2 reformers where I teach online mat classes and reformer sessions. I’ve always taught men and women but statistics are showing more men are practising Pilates which is excellent. My client ratio is Women 59% Men 41%. Pilates is a key exercise regime for all whether your mat or equipment. Keep motivated and stay strong in your body & mind
