Our Dr Ward is undertaking the Bright Equipment Lapland Arctic Ultra this week. This involves dragging a 20/30kg pulk within 10 days, over Swedish Arctic terrain for 500km and temperatures often reaching below -20C!!
We are so proud of her, especially as she is raising funds to buy much needed equipment for our frailty team, which will make such a difference to our most frail and housebound patients.

Iʼm raising money to Provide portable equipment for our community frailty team. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

Norovirus, also called the winter vomiting bug, is a stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It can be very unpleasant, but usually gets better in about 2 days.

There are things you can do when you have norovirus to help prevent infecting others:

✅ wash your hands with soap and water after going to the toilet or changing nappies (alcohol hand gels do not kill norovirus)
✅ wash your hands with soap and water before preparing, serving or eating food
✅wash clothes and bedding that has poo or vomit on it on a 60°C wash and separately from other laundry
✅clean toilet seats, flush handles, taps and bathroom door handles
✅avoid contact with others as much as possible
❌do not go to school, nursery or work until you have not been sick or had diarrhoea for 2 days
❌do not visit others in hospitals or places like care homes until you have not been sick or had diarrhoea for 2 days

February is oesophageal cancer awareness month.
In the UK, around 9,000 people are diagnosed with oesophageal cancer each year.
The oesophagus (also called the gullet) is a muscular tube connecting the mouth to the stomach and is part of the digestive system.
Cancer can develop anywhere in the oesophagus and we do not know exactly what causes oesophageal cancer.
The most common symptom is difficulty swallowing. It may feel as though food is sticking in your throat or chest.
Other symptoms can include:
🟢 food coming back up before reaching the stomach (regurgitation)
🟢 feeling sick or being sick
🟢 weight loss
🟢 chest, back or throat pain when swallowing
🟢 indigestion or heartburn that does not go away
🟢 a hoarse voice or a cough that does not go away
These symptoms can be caused by other conditions. But it is important to get them checked by your GP.

February is Oesophageal cancer awareness month. Find out more about Oesophageal cancer (cancer of the gullet) including signs and symptoms, treatments and online forums.
