Last week's roundup!

📌 We worked with several clients and partners this week, trained 12 new first Aiders and carried out risk assessments for a meat processing client.
📌 Another varied workload which we love, helping clients with training and H&S related matters.

💭 We feel privileged as always to be able to work with like-minded people. Catching up with learners 3 years after we 1st taught them, and learning about their first aid experiences in that time is amazing.

Another all action week is planned!
Take care all, get in touch if we can help with your training needs.

Round Up & Reflection!

📌 We worked with 4 different clients this week, trained 5 first Aiders, and 5 Mental Health First Aiders.
📌 We worked with one of our partners to improve Workplace culture and safety at a food manufacturing plant.
📌 So, another varied week ticks by and each workplace carried differing risks to physical and mental wellbeing.

💭 We feel privileged to be able to work with like-minded people and humbled by some of the stories that learners have shared, in particular during mental health courses.

Forwards into a new week, take care all. Get in touch if we can help with your training needs.

✨️ Round Up & Reflection ✨️
A great week at Safety At Heart

📌 We taught another 10 people to become full First Aid (FAW) trained! 3 day courses are incredible and it's so good to get to know people a bit more than a one day course.
📌 A mix of Mental Health First Aid training and Fire Extinguisher training rounded off the week, it's always nice to have variation.
📌 There's lots going on away from the classroom, planning for upcoming courses and the future!

💭 Having a previous learner call me saying that they had needed to perform CPR for real at a house party was mind blowing! The great news is that the girl who received help promptly survived, moments like this remind me why it's so important to do what I do.

Wishing you all the best
The SAH team 💚

🧠 Mental Health at Work - Not all conversations are about deadlines and targets

Not every workplace conversation has to be about work and the roles we undertake.
Sometimes it’s about spotting when someone isn’t quite themselves.

That’s what Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training is all about:
✨ Noticing the early signs of stress or burnout
✨ Having the confidence to start a supportive conversation
✨ Creating a culture where people feel cared for, not just managed

It’s not heavy. It’s not clinical.
It’s just about looking out for each other. 💙

Last week at we…

📌 Delivered Basic Life Skills – perfect for those who don’t need a full First Aid course but want to feel confident with CPR and using a defib.
📌 Trained 8 learners in Emergency First Aid at Work – and we’re delighted to say they all passed.
📌 Ran a Fire Safety course using real extinguishers (no fire 🔥😉).

💭 Reflection: Whether it’s life skills, first aid, or fire safety, the goal is always the same - giving people the confidence and practical skills to respond when it matters most.

⭐ Keep. Showing. Up. ⭐

It doesn’t matter if your not perfect at “it”

You’ll get frustrated
You’ll laugh
You’ll wonder why you even bother

But you won’t grow, if you don’t show up.

So show up!

This is me and Roux at canine hoopers today. We spend our Wednesday lunchtimes showing up to something that honestly, I’m rubbish at it 🙈
Same can’t be said for Roux as she’s Ace, It’s my dodgy guidance that holds her back but we show up anyway because training isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being present, engaged and open to learning!

The only thing you need when you walk into one of our workplace training sessions is a positive training attitude
Oh boy does Roux bring plenty of that to her training 🫣 A* for her enthusiasm!

I strive to have as much enthusiasm as Roux does! 🐕

Just Like Roux’s trainer guides us… we’re here to guide you!

Growth starts by simply showing up.

What was the last thing you “showed up” to?

Don’t zoom in 🤣 I know they are not brilliant… Yet 🤩

If you search for a sewing pattern for a manikin jacket I doubt you’ll find one… I know because I looked 😂 so I spent the weekend making my own! This is mock up no4! Almost there!!

I posted onto a sewing page for a little fabric advice and the first comment was…

“Just asking, Why?”

Fair question!

So yeah, why? Why do these plastic dolls need clothing? It’s not like they get cold in the garage! 🤷‍♀️

I don’t have an official stat but I’m pretty sure the majority of people who need CPR aren’t already topless, they’re clothed and if they are female they likely will have a bra on too.

It wouldn’t be right to practice on unclothed manikins and then expect our learners to know what to do when the person they need to give CPR to is fully clothed. How would they know at what point to remove clothing? How do we talk about the importance of removing a bra for defib pad placement and break that stigma if there isn’t one?

So the clothes are not to keep Brenda, Alan, Karen, Dave and the rest of the family warm, they actually do have a purpose!

To make CPR training as lifelike as possible!

I’m very much “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” especially when it comes to food and drink 😂 My Dr Pepper Zero was subbed on our shopping a few weeks ago so I tried it and actually it’s alright… it was that alright I ordered it again! 🍒

I guess just because it “ain’t broke” doesn’t mean you can’t experiment, have fun and evolve… the original still exists, you’re just adding more ways to enjoy it!

Training is the same!
Years ago I sat through a first aid course that was PowerPoint heavy with the occasional practical… It worked, it wasn’t broken but I didn’t enjoy it.

So when we set Safety At Heart up, we asked ourselves “what if we gave first aid a twist? A new flavour”

We kept the core ingredients the same because that’s important but we also added.

✨Interactive sessions
✨Fun delivery
✨Quizzes and games
✨fidget toys
✨Interactive training aids

Some people will still prefer the original and that’s ok but for those that want to try a new flavour we’d love a chat!

Let’s making training YOUR flavour!

It’s hard to measure the true impact of training because it isn’t always dramatic!

Yes, it’s a win when someone’s able to give lifesaving CPR at work because of our first aid training…
But it’s also a win when someone can confidently stop a nosebleed.

It’s a win when someone uses a fire extinguisher in an emergency thanks to our fire safety training…
But it’s also a win when they notice something blocking a fire exit and simply moving it.

It’s a win when someone signposts a colleague to mental health support because of our Mental Health First Aid course…
But it’s also a win when they offer a smile and show a little extra kindness.

When people think of these courses, they often picture the worst case scenarios, I used to do the same! I had visions of Kev teaching CPR and recovery position all day on his first aid courses but having attended many alongside him I now see it’s so much more than that!

You imagine defibrillators, fires, or full-blown crisis when you think of the above topics and yes, knowing how to handle those is important but the less dramatic moments matter just as much because every small action, every ounce of confidence, and every informed choice you make, makes a difference!

That’s the power of good training.
